    Mott back on EDGE

Okay, so he did great with his stuff on Superplay. Yet he still managed to drop the ball, pretty spectacularly, during his helming of EDGE. Now that he is back, can he sort out the mess that the ex-investment banker posse made?

Innocent until priven guilty and all that, but is "The Mottster" capable of saving the day?

          Yeah, what exactly happened?

I heard on the grapevine the editor of Edge left and took all the writing staff with him. Should be an interesting next issue... :P

I think this is just David "verisimilitude" McCarthy. Or were there more ex-bankers at Edge?

By the way, Cacophanus, how did Tony Mott drop the ball? I don't know anything about how/why he had left...

Oh, and will he stay at Teletext too?

Yeah, apparently the editor got the sack over something that was printed on the Sega issue (I don't know what - if anyone has found out please post it). Then all the editorial team, apart from Margaret Robinson, resigned in protest.

                  investment bankers
Arent they people like Gordon Ghekko out of the film "Wall Street"? or Nicholas Van Orton out the film "The Game"?

They shift money around, make a fortune, and generally act arrogant and all high and mighty?

Making their vast living off out of basically vacuos and non-tangible items such as electronic money?

Knew the daughter of an investment banker once..............

                  <ahem!>

Anyway, wasnt Tony Mott the guy who did a column in Digitiser?

Perhaps him and Mr Rose are teeming up again?

Imagine if Paul was editor for a paper publication.....

EDIT: I certainly wont weep for EDGE or the protesting resignations....

They clearly did. Whatever comes next will be from a new writing staff.

argh god, they were the only multiplatform mag that genuwinly loved Xbox. Seemed like that way to me anyways.

Just hope Nagoshi is still writing his wonderful monthly columns. BTW, Edge staff (previous) get a load of air time on Gamepad 4 (bravo). David edge even ;P

errr no, most are people who come from Essex, wear fat ties and swan aropund thinking they are some big banking player when they do data entry all day and get paid too much and because they work for an investment bank they think they are teh one....trust me I work with hundreds of these hilarious people, the real powerful people in the city dont talk about it that much and work too hard anyway and make up barely 1% or the city workforce.

Really? Very interesting, thanks for the update. I was going to say, why would someone who earns millions work on a games mag? Misunderstanding on my part.
                          cheers

...but the Mottster is prone to bouts of egocentric self-worship (as a mate noted)...

Oh, he wasn't just badly informed and leary, like most trolls. He knew his subject inside out. It's just a shame that the subject seemed to be based around some kind of elaborate fiction of his own devizing rather than anything rooted in reality.

He would have arguments where he admitted after two pages that he really didn't know what he was talking about, and then continue for another 40 because he was physically incapable of not having the last word.

                              Then he started libelling people.

I, personally, think the guy is capable of doing the job (in an intellectual sense), but his track record indicates an individual focused around puerile one-upmanship.
