I hope they remaster 1 but then give 2 and 3 a simple resolution/FPS bump. One was great in its day but two and three have aged much better, the MP on the sequels disregarding Judgment is also far better than the original game.

I say this a lot about people who favor Gears 1 over 2 and 3 and I can't see why anyone would think it was better besides nostalgia.

That makes no sense. It's not old enough to qualify for nostalgia and, if it were, 2 would be in pretty much the same bracket.

Well firstly I think it does qualify for nostalgia. It is a long enough span of time.

Maybe I should clarify that if they played Gears of War in 2006 for around a year, Gears 2 was 2008 and Gears 3 later then having played both of the sequels and getting used to the feel of those games I think it is fair to say they then can't remember enough of 1 or haven't gone back to one to see how it feels in comparison. Some people may have and obviously my point doesn't apply there but I feel it will to a lot of people with that opinion.

I also say this as I used to say Gears 1 was better, then after years of playing multiplayer on 2 and 3 and going back to one realized how much better the games had become.

Hopefully that makes some sense now.

That's a strange thing to say. People I know have extremely fond memories of playing the multiplayer of the first game, two might have improved on this experience somewhat but I think those same people were burned out by the time three was released. Given the rise of Xbox Live around that period of time I think you can easily be nostalgic about your earliest memories of online play, especially if they were memories with good friends.

Yeah, I have nostalgic memories of playing Project Gotham Racing 2 online in 2003. If Microsoft released a HD remake of that, I'd buy it, as it's a game that would probably still be a lot of fun, and a nice HD sheen would be a very positive thing. I would think fans of Gears of War have similar feelings towards that game.

I agree and felt the same , Gears II was a much better game and wish that was also included in the HD update

Yeah that would be nice along with PGR 3. Trouble is , they are a dead IP and MS show no intertest in making a sequel . So I doubt we get a HD update .

Ah, Speedy you are so young! I'm 40 you see. For me, if it happened post-2000 it pretty much feels like it happened yesterday. I have it sitting by my TV along with 2 and 3 because they are recent enough for me not to move them anywhere. And being nostalgic about something just 8 years ago but not 6 years ago doesn't fit at this age. So, yes, for me what GluedOnBeard says makes no sense.

And he also goes on to say it is fair to say they haven't gone back to the original when I had said in my post I had played it three times - they didn't happen in a row. In fact GoW1 is the one I have played most recently.

No, Asura and I have this covered - different people prioritise different things or respond positively to different things and in this case Gears 1 works for me better. It is simply preference. Attributing that to nothing but nostalgia at 40 for a game from 2006 simply doesn't wash.

The Gears games all have a lot to offer. Well, I don't know about the 4th one. I never played it. But Gears 1 is the stand out for me still to this day and the one I'll go back to most. It's because I enjoy it more. Now if we're talking about listening to Ecuador by Sash, sure, that might just be nostalgia.

Wasn't Gears Judgement a Kinect game? Or was that something they abandoned?

As far as I'm aware the Kinect aspects aren't in Judgment. That entry gets such a bad rep, it's not quite up to the main three entries but to me for all intent purposes it's Gears of War 4. It isn't distinct enough to be a spin-off, perfectly enjoyable entry and would have been good in a collection to let more people try it out.

The multiplayer in GoW I felt improved across the first three games. I still play GoW3 online deathmatch now, 3.5 years on from release. I played the demo that was available for Judgement, and I just didn't gel with it, something felt "off". Now that it was a freebie on Gold earlier in the month, I might give it a proper whirl.

I wasn't singling you out at all. I just noticed not only on this board but the internet in general how many people say it was the best installment and I would like to know just how many have actually gone back and played the first one after investing time in the sequels.

If GoW is your favorite and for all the right reasons then great! I just felt most people out there would not have gone back and played it after playing similar amounts of time with the other games and are judging their opinion based on fond memories.

The only issue is if they brought all three games back how they would make sure there would be enough population for each of the games (I can't see them doing an MCC type affair again) and playlists and for that reason maybe we will just see the first game completely redone with a few more maps tagged on.

I've adored the Gears series so much...even the books were fantastic (still yet to play 3 & Judgement though as I'm still only halfway through replaying 2) but I feel these are un-needed.

I still think the first 2 are wonderful looking games & I fail to see what a tarted up version will bring to the table.
In fact the 2nd game gave me my first truly moving experience in a game...I honestly welled up in that & I would love to go back with a mind wipe & experience it for the first time again.

I totally agree with Colin about this Gen being a total farce with the current trend of remasters & I doubt it's going to end anytime soon.
