Someone new to being old enough to play a new Call of Duty might be rather a lot more excited and have a deeper level of enjoyment than myself sitting down to play another iteration of something I've enjoyed a lot already in previous releases.
Maybe the same applies to cinema too - once you've seen zillions of films, things begin to seem all vaguely similar.
It's a case by case basis really. I do get tired of genres once in awhile, in the case of 2D Platformers their was so much drivel released during the SNES and Mega Drive era, it has to be really special for me to even pick it up. Rayman Legends was a beautiful game and I loved playing parts of it in Co-Op but as the level design became less special, I put it down quicker than I picked it up. It's harsh but once you've played games like Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Super Mario World it feels like why bother unless you can beat that water mark?
On the other end of the scale you have had the time to give certain games in a genre the benefit of the doubt so many times that if you hate them all, you don't bother wasting your time with new releases. Japanese RPG's are the best example, I always hated the turn based combat (The real time combat in Zelda, Metal Slug & Gun Star Heroes is so good so no excuses!) and lengthy diatribes of text in the 16bit era so as the games kept being released and I kept putting them down, I now don't touch them with a barge poll. Which is a shame as I loved the music and story in a game like Final Fantasy VII but the gameplay itself rubbed me the wrong way I've never got pass disc 1.
The length of time I've been playing has allowed me to have a wider perspective and sense of progress than people just discovering Videogames for the first time currently have. Whereas they may not forgive a developer for releasing a game that does not solidly hit 60FPS at 1080p, I'll be far more accepting as I completed the final mission of Driver on the PSone back in 1999 when the frame rate was single digits!
Every so often I'll stare at amazement (The last time was probably playing Super Mario 3D Land in 3D for the first time) at what games are now doing, how far we've come and despite the **** Newspapers saying games were corrupting the youth, now everyone is a gamer. Kids don't expect anything less than to have Minecraft available to be played on their School PC's, Me and my friends were told off when we attempted to install Doom on the 486 on our year 5 PC.

FFVII isn't 3D in the true sense. The same way Pandemonium isn't a 3D platform game like Mario 64.
To me RPG's and well any game should be around the 20 hrs or so mark. That well you keep a better track of the story and can also play other games in bewteen with out lossing track

You can argue that the creative side has diminished in recent years but it hasn't really, it's just shifted in different directions.
Take games like red dead redemption and assassins creed black flag. Both games put you in the shoes of a character that's amazingly animated, in a world that's brilliantly recreated and actually let you be a pirate or a cowboy for the first time. Neither game was possible in any way on a previous gen.
Want to go hunt a whale? Or take a prize and add ships and crews to your pirate fleet? Yep off you go.
Want to go russtle cattle or hide in wait and hold stage coaches up? Yep off you go, or just mosey on into town as the legendary loan gun man? Yep you can do that too.
All the previous gens have had their moments and provided great entertainment and experiences over the years, but I for one wouldn't want to regress, and in sure we will all get even more amazing experiences going forward.
That's the great thing about games

I don't get why people ignore an entire platform, take ios for every Monument Valley, there's a million candy crush's but i wouldn't go out of my way to not buy a device if there was stuff i was interested about on it. it's been this way on every console and computer since gaming began for every gem there's a 100 stinkers vying for your money too.Last edited by Lebowski; 18-05-2015, 13:03.
