That's a better way to put. With Street Fighter as well, updates could hardly be done online...

I am in the better side of 40 and age has brought the following changes in gaming habits/attitudes

Less time to play; with a partner, house and numerous committments, the days of the 16 hr waggle are long over. I dont even think i would want to do it if i could as in retrospect it is a real unproductive use of time. My partner and family now come first and my thoughts throughout the day dont relvolve around videogames. More disposable means i can buy pretty much any thing i want, but have way less inclination to do so.

Reduction in OCD behaviour; used to be pretty obsessive, regarding spine cards, original boxes, perfect discs etc but dont really give a monkeys now, as long as the items not wrecked or unplayable. Age has worked wonders regarding this issue; boy was it a mental burden throughout my 30's.

A firm realisation that some older stuff should remain in the realms of nostalgia; perserving the memory is often better than trying to recreate the original feeling, which is impossible. Also some of the stuff has not aged well at all.

In the 37 years of gaming i have seen and played most formats, owned most systems from the spectrum to the ps4, but the flame burns less bright if i'm honest.

In summary i am a much more content gamer now, but can see it growing less and less important to me in the future

I find video games a very useful way to spend time. It's fun.

Personally I find videogames a more enriching way of spending time than watching trash on TV and flitting about the internet on my iPad* - I feel I'm expanding my knowledge and appreciation of the format. The same way I feel if I watch a film (properly, not flicking between them on TV channels) or read a book or comic. I always feel bad if I look back on an evening and all I've done is kill time and not properly enjoy any of the many forms of entertainment I'm passionate about.

That said, there are of course more productive ways to spend time than on entertainment

*in no way a criticism of you DVDX2, just sharing my thoughts - I find it very easy to wap Don't Tell The Bride on and spend the evening refreshing the forum!

Surely time should be spent doing what makes you happy no matter what it is?

It had some nice sound and ok visuals but it was boring and got very old fast . Totally outlclassed by SOR II in every aera . The Poor Snes really wasn't up to scrolling beat them ups

Fair enough, but it surely wasn't on the scale of Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed for example
At least those games looked different with each update and have a totally new setting. Not really what we got witht he countless spin off with SF II or the endless EA updates . At the end of the day who's really cares as long as they good well made games .

I much prefer Return of Double Dragon to SOR as great as Rage is. It's ugly as sin but has amazing combat.

I'd rate SoR2 higher in a review overall but I personally prefer DD.

My fav is SOR III but its lets down by a god awful soundtrack that makes it hard to play . DDR is a nice game on the Snes but its no SOR II or SOR III killer imo

What difference does updating online make? You were saying that cookie cutters sequals didn't start until 2005. The King of Fighters produced at least one game a year between 1994-2010. The CoD you refer to can't hold a candle to that.

The home versions of Champion Edition and Hyper Fighting would have been such a liberty that they ended up putting both games on the same cartridge.
                    Kept you waiting, huh?

I guess the point people are trying to make is that that kind of behaviour was not the norm in the past whereas now it seems largely to be, with a concomitant seesaw swing away from new and daring IP. It's not an absolute, though.

pretty much me as well, but i do like to play retro when i do have time, been trying to get my retro corner started in the spare room for some time, i have everything hardware wise i need, just need to get it done.

Like you i have played most home computers and owned almost all the consoles since the MS/Snes era, but I stopped at the PS3. no interest at all in WIIu, PS4 or One.

                          Yeah that soundtrack is awesome.

I prefer the combat in DD, it's deeper and feels more varied. Overall SOR is better as a package as the graphics and sound murder it and it plays well.

I was going to call you lot who have turned your backs on gaming complete grumps, then I realised I have zero interest in the new consoles, so I guess I'm a semi-grump, quasi-grump or grumpesque.

There are sooo many games on 360 and PS3 to play, it seems crazy to upgrade.

There's nothing wrong with not being intersted in the current gen!

More like gaming turned its back on us and if we want to it to turn around again we have to buy the DLC.

True, but if you're like me & played and completed every game you wanted on the 360, PS3 & Wii, you can argue there's bugger all to play!

The older I get, I've realised more and more that revisiting older games is not all its cracked up to be. Sure there's the stone cold classics, but there's only so much enjoyment I can get by playing a game I completed before.

I value a new experience over revisiting old ground time & time again.
