I'd rather play great old games than mediocre new ones as there are far more great olds ones than new. That's a skewed point though.
Plenty of awesome older games I've yet to play too.

Yeah, I can see the draw of a new machine if you've exhausted the previous generation or there was something unique to experience, but I have a stack of games to work through.

I might do a "photograph your physical to-play stack" thread!

Please let's not do that. If the tower of games fell, you might never hear from me again...

I'm half-way through another LttP play, and then I'll be working on 60fps longplays of both Perfect Dark and F-Zero GX in between Splatoon sessions.

The older I get, I've realised more and more that revisiting older games is not all its cracked up to be. Sure there's the stone cold classics, but there's only so much enjoyment I can get by playing a game I completed before.
So very true . There were so many good games on the Mega Drive or the Snes that wasn't a neeed to upgrade, never mind a system like a PS (with so many great games its untrue) but going back to a lot of the games they've aged quite badly and I wouldn't want to go back to playing them again really . Also I think the reason a lot of people go back to old games is becasue a lot of them were pee easy to finish and could be beat in one sitting - not so much the case for new games these days

I still enjoy games as much as I ever have but modern gaming does nothing for me in the slightest. For myself personally gaming lost it's magic when the Dreamcast died, which was about the time that Japanese developers were starting to die off and all of a sudden non-Japanese games were the games people started paying attention too. Japanese made games ARE gaming, now that has changed everything just feels weird to me.

Games just don't feel the same anymore for the most part. I look in 'Game' at the PS4/XBOX1 titles and there's nothing there I would want buy. The idea of playing an American made AAA game where you spend most of the time awkwardly jogging around a 3D environment collecting shiny things for hours on end with no real challenge and every 20mins you watch a cut-scene, they couldn't be more boring to me.

8/16 bit is the golden era for me, more specifically 2D arcade games. Short hard punishing games that can take weeks of practice to finally get THAT run, it's something lost in modern games that take 10+ hours to plough through, and are usually designed for everyone to 'complete' with little effort, and then never gets played again.

Old 2D games have a certain magic and feel about them that never seems to get old, the good ones anyway

C'Mon there were a ton of Snes and Mega Drive so called classic that could be beat in one sitting or after just a few hours of play, so most games didn't even offer a password or save feature . Contra III is brilliant total pick and play and instant action , but no way would I be willing to pay ?50 for a game like that and where I could finish in one go these days .

What like Shenmue or MGS and a host of other Japan developed games . Don't get why people feel the need to have a dig and Western games myself .

You don't understand how much I hate modern 3rd person 3D/jogging analog games. The thought of having to play an Assasin's Creed game makes me genuinely depressed :/

Not like the Japanese did it any better and they made plenty of 2D crap too and were just as guilty of repeating a winning formula just have a look at the likes of Koei and Square.. I means lets have another Final Fantasy and Dynasty Warriors games *Rolls Eyes * .
Anway forget AC , the New Tomb Raider is the adventure game I'm looking forward too this year and couldn't careless if its made in the USA .

I still maintain that the Souls games are like games of old, just new. Amazing level design, perfect controls, a steep learning curve and longevity.

If they were to ever remaster Demon's Souls for PS4, I'd be set. Hell, sling in the original Dark Souls for that matter.

Driveclub and forza have been the only reasons to own both machines. Hopefully something new will arrive to drag me away from my phone, 3ds and tablets. Downloaded graidus v the other day and spent more time having fun than the countless watchdogs, cods and assassins. Fallout series and zeldas will always be special and will keep playing these until I'm blind.

                            I'm one old bastard
