Yeah, I don't know where I could possibly think you were dismissing that period in gaming.

I'm not saying those gens didn't have their crap, they did, just like every gen from now and the future will. You can have your own opinion and taste, you can't however speak for others.

99% is a grand figure. I just put 400 games on my Turbo EverDrive, only 4 of them are good?

I disagree with Superman Falls on almost every point. Gaming is at its lowest state since the 8bit days of crap bedroom coders. The difference now is poor design can hide behind tech.

I'm 34 and been gaming since about '85. Been through almost all eras in some form and I love games but rarely new ones.

Been playing Racing Lagoon for a month now and despite the less than perfect handling, it's easily one of the most enjoyable games I've played in years. It's not nostalgia because I've never played it before, it simply still feels fresh and so well designed.
Rarely do games feel like that today imo. Last of Us and GTAV were two I do love though.

Off topic, but is there much of a language barrier?

Seems as if you'll miss the "story" but you're there for the gameplay mechanics.

That's the exact same mindset I've been stuck in since 1984, and by far the very best games in those genres have all been released over the last five years.

All excluding shooters perhaps, but bullet hell isn't so bad after a little practice.

There was just as much drivel released, with just as many (if not more) lazy licensed software and iteration in titles but it's easy to remember the gold and forget the guff that gamers had to wade through at the time.
Anticipation and Yo-Noid come to mind. The freedom to choose and the lack of knowledge will make one wade some very deep waters. Oh my...

Back in the day when copiers were all the rage i was lucky to have friends that had copying machines for megadrive and snes meaning i got to try a lot of stuff, they had a huge piles of disks. There were indeed a lot of garbage out there even back then, when you had access to a lot of games to try you found quite a lot of it. For every 1 great game there were 10 crappy games for it to hide among lol.

It was thanks to those that i discovered wonder kitchen, and my love affair for cooking games started

Can you give examples Dave? If there are similar games out there that surpass the likes of Metal Slug someone can have my money right now! Bullet hell shooters though, I'm not for budging on that one, I absolutely despise them and just can't get any enjoyment out of them at all. It's a shame as its a genre I want to support but can't.

Not really. Main issue is getting to grips with the flow. You get used to mainly selecting top option but when that does nothing select bottom!

In game you just drive around the maps visiting each location to trigger events.

I wonder how much plays a part too. Back in my teen years most of my money went on games and gaming systems, these days that isn't the case with bills to pay and enjoying time with my Girlfriend and I bet it even harder for people with 2 or more kids to justify spending hundreds of pounds on consoles and their games.

                          40. I've drifted into an era of reading about games, discussing them, buying a fair few and playing rarely!

                          Bizarre!

                            This is accurate.

                            "look at the lovely visuals!"

Meanwhile you wonder into a corner where you weren't meant to go and the game completely breaks. Very cheap.

Why just two or more kids? Is one pretty cheap then?

Racing Lagoon does not play great but it's one of the best games I've played in years. Honestly, it's not nostalgia talking... Now there's an oxymoron.

I'm not going to defend DLC, patches, iPhone tap games, Fremium, Endless Shooters but it's so easy to forget the fatigue you felt as a kid, or were willing to put up with because you brought a **** game that would have to last you the next 5 months but the same **** happened in the 80's and 90's. Endless shooters and 2D Platformers, games released fully broken with no patching system available, **** add on technology, pointless peripherals, ?70 price tags, sequels, games marketed with fake screenshots, there was just as much, if not more bull**** in the old days as there is now.

I have a fondness for the 90's and early 2000's but lets not be under any illusions, those days were not better and full of brilliance, just different but maybe more pioneering.
