They call it "deferred achievement status" these days.

Not in the likes of Project Cars. Ridger Racer on the PC sold on its graphics alone. I found the game to be dull and completely overrated, much like FF 7 : games saved by flashy intros and graphics a hallmark of many so called PS classics

Indeed. A classic that unlike modern RPGS can actually kill you in battle. It is also free for players to setup their party any how they want for a huge combination of styles. Bosses that are optional extras that provide a real challenge to beat or to even get to.
None of that matters though. Of course.

That's not for everyone and then most kids will want their own gamer tag so that's more expensive again for the kids and dad to play online, never mind getting the games. Like with a footballing family, it's can become really expensive the more kids one has, to take to the games, and in footy too you always hear calls of it was better in the old days, the modern game is too fancy and all that.

But that's a ridiculous comparison! You can't share a football ticket, you can share a games console.

FF 7 a classic lol. Take away the FMV and the flash graphics and it would have sold like crap in the West. Total overrated RPG with a rubbish story and poor set of characters imo.

FF7 had a great story with a great set of characters. It also had some great sidequests and the materia system was great also. FF8 & 9 were great in all those areas aswel although 9 went a bit pear shaped with it's story towards the end. That being said the FMV and huge marketing did help sell it in the west but there was never any doubt about it's quality as a game just like 8 & 9.

I found it to be rubbish and totally overrated, with a dull story and poor cast of characters. It was sold on its GFX and FMV in the West, which may explain why it's one of the most returned games of all time in the USA.

Is there any fact in that video game myth?

I'm guessing you played it for a grand total of five minutes, then?

There's no denying it took a while to catch on, but when it did it became arguably the most revered and loved JRPG of all time, precisely because of the characters and their adventure. The battle system wasn't bad either.

I'm 29, always enjoyed gaming and my first system was a Megadrive. I'm certainly disillusioned with gaming practices at the moment, DLC, day 1 patches, freemium etc, but gaming is still great in general though.

The 7th generation of gaming was probably weakest if you ask me though, not bad by any means but certainly weak imo. Rising costs meant more 'consumable' games but with a lack of polished gameplay. Uncharted is a series that springs to mind, it's a great story and certainly holds your attention but the gunplay isn't great and the platforming is too automated. Naughty Dog did perfect the formula though with The Last of Us.

This generation had a slow start but it's starting to get good though. Bloodborne is an absolute master piece, and I've enjoyed some other games of late too.

I have a real soft spot for the 16/32 bit era. They we're more experimental and had a bit more heart (if indeed that makes any sense).

Generally, my favourite games came from the 6th generation of games though, they seemed to have that right mix of everything and on a side note that generation felt as though it had more to play...

If I can have an 8th generation wishlist:

                          - Pre-order DLC needs to die as does on disc paid for DLC
                          - Use different types of pricing models and distribution methods to make bigger then indie but smaller then AAA games.
                          - Freemium games also need to die

Kinda sad feeling when nothing as creative as Vib Ribbon will ever be released again.

Yeah Parappa even and a game I think had zero attention but I really liked back then: Silent Bomber.

Ah, we've finally gotten onto FF7 here heh. It's a good game imo, but horribly over-rated, and FF6 is the much better game to me. But each to their own really.
