Does no-one else excel at strategy games?

    Well I do.

    Ha.

I only excel at Daytona 2. I do tend to really get hold of racing games although I don't buy that many of them. My 1080 time trialling is doing my nut in though. I keep restarting if I don't get the perfect start and its driving my head round the twist.

      ARGH.

I play loads of different types of games (though I avoid strategy/rts games), so I'm competent at lots but not exceptional at many.

Thats cool though, cause I usually don't realise I'm really good at a game until we have a big multi player sesh.

games I am/have been good at:

        Samba de Amigo
        Puzzle Bobble (rusty now)
        Rez
        Space Channel 5
        Street Fighter 2 Turbo
        Tekki (again, rusty)
        Amplitude
        Mario Golf

        a pretty decent mix

Is this the upside-down-tetris-with-bubbles game? If so, my bird is _amazing_ at it. I have no idea how but I have found all girls have at least a medium level of skill with this game from the start.

As a kid, I excelled at 2D shoot 'em ups. I don't play as many these days, but I can still get in the zone when I want to.

I'm a dab hand at Rhythm Action games too.

Thats the one. Its funny, there are some puzzle games that girls are just instinctively good at. My other is very good at Puzzle Bobble too

Yeah, I can't quite get the hang of modern schmups (too many bullets!), but give me Galaxian, Phoenix, Robotron or Tempest and I can zone it.

              I should have added:

              Tempest 2000

to the list, thinking about it.

Well it was my first time at its most difficult setting...

Still, I may give it a look but that game didn't quite click with me for some reason.

I'm pretty good at platformers though I don't play as many as I used, But I did manage to complete Banjo Kazooie in under 7 and a Half hours. Its also irritating that they aren't multiplayer because I'd be king.

I used to be excellent at non-serious racing games to and I still rule Unirally and Snes mario kart. And, I guess, like a lot of people I was excellent at SFII at one point.

But nowadays I play so many genres that I can't master any one of them and only become average at all of them, which makes it easier to play new games and I actually prefer it this way.

Jack of all trades really. Though shooters are always my speciality on many different platforms. Helps when doing the Llamasoft Lleague challenge, never know what will come up. Last week was SonSon, this week it's Manic Miner!

A little bit off topic, but how do you join the llama Lleague? I've registered on the forum but don't know what to do next.

Used to think I was good at FPS - since playing some of the worlds best in leagues and ladders I realise that i'm not

Some of these guys are machines

Quite simply, play the game that's been chosen, and post a screen grab of your score in the thread that's run each week. As a new player, you will be automatically entered into the lower Lleague to begin with (unlike myself who has earnt his place in the higher Lleague). If you finish in the top 3, you will be promoted to the higher Lleague. And it's as simple as that

I don`t really excell at one genre, but more so of individual games.

Any game where I can practice and know i`m making progress I will do well at because I will play for hours.

Games I can honestly say I was very good at are :-

Mario Kart SNES - I used to buy magazines years ago just to see if I could find a time that had beaten one of mine.
                              SWOS Amiga
                              Tony Hawks series PSX\PS2

I`m a dab hand at Pro Evo compared to my mates, but I have taking the time to master the harder settings whereas my friends like to play the first two or three settings. I`d love to play some really good players to see what I was like lol.

(I know the remark wasn't directed towards me, but...)Papercut - you saw me at the meet on Amplitude. I was alright, about the same level as you (maybe slightly better on the faster songs, but not as good on the slower ones).

Bear in mind that my only basis for practice was on Frequency, and I'd never seen the Amplitude songs before, right...

Well I got Amplitude through the post yesterday from PeteJ, and I finished Insane mode in that evening . And not only did I do that, but I absolutely owned the Slipknot track. I hate all this big headedness, but I really do pwn Amplitude now. Even though the tracks are blatantly more difficult than Frequency, they 'click' sooo much easier than the original, and I just love them! And Blink 182 shouldn't be in there, it's too easy... .
