Most retries on a section of a game?

The most annoying part to a game ever for me was the last stage, stage 31 in Initial D: Special Stage, racing downhill against Bunta in manga mode. Did I say "was", I should have said "is". 6 months on and I still can't win! I must have had at least 100 attempts!

I think generally the end of a game or the final boss goes one way of two extremes. Either easy as, or extremely difficult. Most of the time I find end of games to be way too easy which disapoints me but so does a game thats too hard.

F-Zero GX - Story Mode #7 V.Hard.

I spent around 60 hours attempting this but luck just wasn't on my side - and still isn't for the record. It's not like the Sega craft are worth unlocking really. Time for the eternal shelf mate.


Perfect Dark - Attack Ship PA

Spent 3 days dying on the bridge of the ship (the final 30 seconds of this long, hard-ass mission) before finally taking the piss and waltzing through without getting hit once. At least it taught you how to take down Skedar with the knife alone. Perfect agent stomps all over 00 agent BTW


Super Mario World - Cheese Bridge secret area dive thing

Who can forget this old chestnut? Everytime I replay the game I get stuck on this part - It's always taken me 15 minutes or so to crack it.

Ikaruga Ch1

Was trying to work out how many times I have played this to try for a high score and a complete chain.

Came to the conclusion it has probably been about 1000 times at least, and around 70-80 hours.

F-Zero Chapter 7 - Hard

Spent about 5-7 hours on this, including a 4 hour solid stint of retrying over and over until I finally managed it.

Came to the conclusion it was more about luck than skill and so thankfully (after reading DavidFallow's post) didnt bother trying V Hard!

Yeah, took me about 3 days to get the 00 Agent Facility cheat.

Also, took me a solid afternoon to pummel Mizar - Jet Force Gemini's boss, and I still didn't manage it. The next day I came home from college (ah, those were the days) and completed it first time!

I'm sure there's more, but I can't really think of them all :P

The 30-chain record in Vagrant Story for the 'Sparkling Warrior' title. Thats 30 consecutive strikes. My record is 25 and my hands start to shake when I get close to the record.

Tony Hawks Underground in Sick mode trying to do the combo New Jersy goal (near the end of the game).

The rest of the game wasnt too bad at all, the later goals were easier than this.

I attempted it at least 50 times.

When I finally did it I was greatly releaved and I now find it hard to see why it took me so long

It took me ages to beat the devil car on Ridge Racer to complete the game if you made the tiniest mistake after the third lap you were done for and had to restart. I must have lost count the number of times I tried that. When I eventually beat it I played as the Devil Car a couple of times then never touched the game again.

I tried the same challenge on RR Revolution against the white angel car but I have never to this day been able to beat it and believe me I have tried many times.
