    Noteworthy next-gen performance upgrades

Quite a few of us have now got XSX / XSS / PS5 systems, and if we're all being honest with ourselves, there aren't many games exclusive to, or pushing any of these platforms. Most of us are sat on a pile of PS4 / XB1 games though, with access to plenty of bargains on older titles too, and given this is the first generation in forever that's fully backwards compatible, I've been wondering about what games got mostly overlooked for having run like arse on their native platforms, but now with the raw hardware grunt of these new systems, are now suddenly much more worthy of a revisit.

I'm aware there's also the issue where disc versions of some games (The Last Guardian and God of War are the two I've heard mentioned) are without frame rate caps in their unpatched forms, whereas current iterations have limits in place.

But to get onto the sort I'm talking about, Disaster Report 4 seems a good example - I'm hearing this now runs at 60fps!

I know the charm with EDF is tied up in its lower production values, but has anyone tried 4.1 or 5 yet? Does it smooth out the more chaotic levels?

    And so on.

Well then, that's totes getting bought now!!

Rime is a good example of this. The framerate was all over the shop on PS4 / Xbox One but on PS5 it's buttery smooth and wonderous to play.

I understand that PS4-PSVR games have universally improved performance, usually with a supersampled rendering quality and more consistent framerate, the reason being that being VR, the games always had "floating" performance characteristics that could throttle the visuals up and down to maintain the desired framerate - so running them on better hardware just makes them better.

To add to that they have patched Blood and Truth and Firewall with PS5 modes to make better use of the hardware.

No mans Sky has had a specific next gen update called no mans sky next gen which is free which offers massive performance boosts

Destiny 2 Got a update too to bring it closer to the pc version 60-120 fps 4k modes in pvp (120 fps if you tv supports it), and locked 60fps 4k in pve with improved textures and lighting, as well as a FOV slider to give you a better view of the game world.

I'd probably say that No man's sky is the biggest improvement from the previous gen. Its a country mile ahead of the ps4 version.

There's a load to pick from on the Series X but mainly you're seeing a notch up from 30 to 60fps or a similar jump from 60 to 120fps.

If there is any stand out it's probably Gears 5 as it's HDR is outstanding and 120fps in multiplayer is near perfect. Same goes for Halo MC collection hitting 120fps but also adding a FOV slider... They feel like different games even if familiar.

Skyrim and Fallout 4 can get 60fps using mods, see Eurogamer... But it would be nice to see some official patches for these.

The biggest stand out though for me personally is Ori and the Will of the Wisps. It's 120fps mode is nice and all but the 6K supersampled 60fps mode is honestly so beautiful to look at it's almost art. So that gets my vote.
