So, minor hardware upgrade due to parts obsolescence. I like the integrated ethernet port but I'm in no rush to buy one. I don't quite understand the "enhanced speakers" in portable mode when likely everyone will be using headphones.

Like how there are actually 20 different Playstation revisions, which are all basically the same, but they had different components.
EDIT: Though I will give Nintendo one thing - they skipped E3. They could've announced this, but didn't. I have to assume they knew it would be disappointing, so they held it off for a low-key announcement.

It's still pointless, though. Switch hardware isn't particularly resource-intensive and the original hardware was printing money just fine. But this OLED model will obviously replace the current "standard" model when Nintendo no longer have stock in reserve.

Originally posted by Neon Ignition View PostI almost expect a statement from No.10 denying they put this news out to distract from other bad news stories.
I'm going to assume that GAME and other retail outlets will at least have the good grace to offer a trade-in programme that makes this at least a little viable, like what we've seen in the past with the DS and 3DS iterations.

Tbh, the reveal is only good news. No need to worry about split game releases etc. After Nintendo said they wanted to redefine generation lengths that immediately lent itself to potentially 7yr+ too which makes sense if Rockstar and Bethesda can shill a single game for 10yr+. Probably need to really let any hopes of Mario Kart 9 go though
