The most exciting thing for me was the Super Mario film.

Kirby looked great, too, especially that huge boss that would make QC proud

I appreciate the pricing on switch online this far has been cheap but this isn't a massive value add to go asking for more subscription revenue... They can get stuffed
Well first off theirs the issues of piracy vs a legitimate way to play these games, secondly the N64 Emulator may work on xbox but its not perfect it has glitches, graphical errors and sound issues, a lot of games don't run at full speed either, N64 has always been a tricky system to get right and the xbox version of retroArch hasn't suddenly made this any different.

I don't agree with the new pricing tier so we can play some old games on the switch though, you have to ask wtf are they playing at Sony are giving out brand new PS5 games every month with their subscription where as Nintendo give you a handful of old Nes and Snes games and don't even add new ones monthly. if they had come out and said they where improving their service and adding new formats id be onboard

I think we're more forgiving of things like RetroArch because they're free and there's an understanding that things won't be perfect.

We also follow their progress from the early stages(anyone remember playing Mario Kart before the track was emulated? What about booting the PS1 bios?) whereas we only experience the finished product with things like Virtual Console and these Switch Online collections.

Got to agree on the outstanding quality of Odyssey. It’s something else.

Yeah its an indie program but when someone is saying that the series s emulates N64 flawlessly (his words) then i think we owe it to ourselves to correct Nonny from spewing this xbox fan boy bul****.

Yep, so to simply cut to it the Direct was like 90% utter ****. To be fair there was no expectation or need for it to be amazing but it felt like they did one largely because Directs have necessitated Nintendo do one every X amount of time simply to maintain their market presence and don't always have much to actually show.

The DLC etc is like a tweets worth of info, I don't need it. The only notable showings were Bayonetta 3 and Kirby.

Kirby looked decent, I used to pass the series over but since the 3DS era I've had more time for them and this one looks interesting as well so I'm happy to watch for it.

Bayonetta 3 is... well, it's a game that you take as a little gift. By all intent market realities Bayonetta should have ended when the first came out, that it's reached a trilogy and via Nintendo no less is astounding so I'll happily take it as it is as a way of rounding out an improbably series. On its own merits? It looked like DLC. Chunks of Bayonetta 2 felt like cheaply made retools of the first game and this felt similar. Her new redesign is the worst of the three too, just messy.

              Other than that?

Amazing that we finally saw them announce the Switch Pro!

Switch Pro...fit that that is thanks to the shameless shilling they're doing with the N64/MD tier. There's no getting around it, it's unjustifiable and the other two companies would get utterly torn apart for the same trick. Utterly disgusting cash grab that shouldn't be indulged by anyone for fear of them taking it further.

Ultimately we have Metroid Dread, then Kirby, Splatoon 3, Mario + Rabbids 2, Bayonetta 3, Zelda BOTW II so the next 12 months looks to be a decent and steady chain of titles even if the excitement level for Switch is reaching a fizzle.

Admittedly - and this isn't in defense of Nintendo, as I'm not happy with the situation either - this era of GamePass/PSPlus is deceptive. People are getting to play multiple new £50 AAA-quality and high quality indie games every month for under a tenner. those companies can only do this because they're losing money, but playing a zero-sum game, where they're trying to make that the definitive way the mainstream user experiences videogames.

Then it'll be £11. Then £12. Then £15. Then £20. Then whatever it is until it loses money (not when people stop subbing; rising prices will in-part deal with that; it's when there's a fulcrum shift). Ideally by that time, they've reached a point where there just aren't enough videogames to play via other means (like with movies, today, where companies like Disney are already stopping their UHD BluRay releases because their subscription services exist) and we go back to how things were in the 80s/90s, where success was dictated by a small number of people in boardrooms who decide who gets on TV and who doesn't.

Come, now. It's not xbox fanboy bull****.

I interpreted nonny's post to mean it's a worse option for people like us who can fiddle with things like RetroArch easily.

Hell of a direct for me.

Love the look of the new Bayonetta design and while the Tokyo streets level looks dull visually, we know that things get way more exciting in a Bayonetta game.

Bought the Castlevania collection. Going to get the Mega Drive and N64 tier for online when that comes out. Downloaded the Yoko Taro card game demo. Want to try Actraiser as I've never played it. Splatoon looks fantastic. Kirby looks cool. KOTOR in a sale might be a goer.

I know that people are upset about the extra online tier cost but I pay £30-ish a year for a whole bunch of pals to access the online stuff so it works out fine. I really like the NES and SNES library on there with the rewind and save state emulation. Allowed me to experience some classics I hadn't tried before, all tucked up in bed at the end of the day.

As for the comment a few posts up about the disparity between the apathy for Sony's megatons and the excitement for this Direct; all of Sony's "megatons" were more tedious AAA open world games about angry men completing tedious little side quests to unlock boring little upgrades in an upgrade tree that is too big. It's all so self serious, either trying to ape the tone of a Chris Nolan film or trotting out more Marvel characters. Nintendo's games are fun and have a sense of humour and don't cost SEVENTY POUNDS. I love my PS5 but I only play Japanese games on it because western games are so deathly dull.

They haven't announced the price of that new tier yet!

Possibly my favourite Direct from recent memory.

The MH Rise Sunbreak teaser was short but thematically very interesting. I played a lot of Rise on release and am not ready to go back into the fray just yet, but I figure by the time it's out I'll be ready.

Delighted to finally see Bayonetta 3, and have a lot of faith that even if it's not as good as the first, I'll still find plenty to enjoy in it. That said, I thought the trailer was great. Platinum sadly doesn't mean to me what it once did, but I still have faith.

Actraiser was an great surprise, and even if it turns out the remake is a little janky, the keyart is gorgeous, and I'm sure Yuzo Koshiro's done the business twiddling about with the soundtrack additions.

Castlevania Advance Collection is great news and a brilliant price - I've played all of these previously but can absolutely see me playing them again. Always happy to have new, convenient, sensible ways to recommend people try these games out, too.

N64/MD stuff is neat and there's some great titles in there - Sin & Punishment and MUSHA Aleste got my attention in particular - but I'm a little sad it's going to involve a price hike. This may not be the best way to play these games but it's definitely convenient. Just the other day I played through Super Metroid in a day in this way and it was very satisfying.

Splatoon 3 teased just enough - vehicles and what looked like grappling - to tell me they're doing fun stuff with this.

Yoko Taro's new card game thing isn't for me but new music from Keiichi Okabe is never a bad thing.

I forgot about KOTOR, I wonder if that's just for the Switch? I had to use an older PC to replay them as newer cards/drivers don't render a lot of the effects correctly.
