    DMC at last

Having recently acquired a chipped PS2, I've just ordered myself a second hand US Devil May Cry from Cex for ?5.

I bought the horrid PAL version on the day of release back in 2001 but soon got disillusioned with the ugly borders and treacly gameplay.

I'm dead excited about finally playing this as Capcom intended.
Anyone care to wax lyrical on the subject?

      SLASH-SLASH............SLASHSLASHSLASHSLASHSLASH *cancel* -UPPERCUT - BANGBANGBANGBANG-DRAGONSLASH-BANG-sLLLLAASHSHHhhh!!11

I love Devil May Cry - it's beautiful, there's a NICE frame cancel you can do with t3h shotgun (lets you multiple juggle opponents with it)

      Rapid shotgun (cancels reload animation):
Shoot but as soon as the animation starts flick the analogue stick so that Dante twitches (resets the animation) - then fire again!! When you get used to the rhythm you can fire the shotgun well fast!

Best skuff in the game is when you get to the courtyard for the first time - I spend hours there just walking in and out to reset it and dealing death to the nutters that attack!

        Thanks for the tip.

Funnily enough Saurian, I believe that you know the guy who sold me my chipped PS2 - Ted Stryker (Luke).

Any more hints and tips for DMC?

I'm a serious gamer in that I buy everything that's good for every machine, but I'm not really 'l33t' at anything other than Winning Eleven.

There's a bit like that in Maximo vs Zin. Although you have a time limit, you can keep replaying the level. Best bit in the game

That wouldn't happen to be the part where you have to destroy the 6 cells and the baddies keep comin' and comin'?

Also you can use the move "Stinger" to jump huge distances - there are a lot of secrets within the stages and a lot of them can be reached using this move to jump insane gaps. Sword moves are like a flow chart - certain parts and be cancelled into next attacks.

Off the initial slash-slash - you can go:
                Slash
                Slight pause...slash-slash-slash
                Slight pause...slash-slash-back+slash
                Slight pause...slash-slash-back+hold slash
                Long pause...slashslashslashslashslashslash
                Long pause...slashslashslashslash-back+slash
                Long pause...slashslashslashslash-back+hold slash
                Long pause...slashslashslashslash-back+hold slash slash
There's loads more (thats just sword, not even mixing guns into it) - but that's the gist of it.

Yeah man I know Luke - safe brer

First time through you should certainly buy Air Raid for alastor and kick13 for ifrit.

Air raid owns phantom and is dead 'andy for nabbing some orbs.

Kick13 while Devil Triggered instigates and awesome and ferocious combo that nails Angelo Nero/ Nelo Angelo whatever you want to call him.

Also, a fully charged level2 fireball thing (forget what it's called no) is insanely powerful.

                  As is inferno.

                  Sparda is crap.

The grenade launcher annihilates Marionnettes but is wank against anything else.

Use ifrit against the Lizard clowns. It smashes their shields and helmets and ****s them up.

                  Never EVER play easy-auto mode

LOL! Phantom is a blouse! - He gives it all the mouth but still...he gets pwn3d, then he has the sheer FACE to chase my bredrin Dante through the corridor only to get pwn3d again!

When I get back it's Courtyard + Lizard brers + Sword + handgun + Burly Brawl choon = KICKOFF!
