SCUF controllers are £190-200 which is why I'd suggest this is coming in around that eye watering amount. Those controllers don't even have half the features mentioned here either by I guess it depends whether Sony decides to price it low to sell lots or price it at prestige price to make it feel like the superior product.

Small hint... they never price it low.

        That's 100% a mistake

It might not be a large amount and inflation might be a pain but atm both Nintendo and Microsoft are holding fast so whilst each companies financial positions might be different this will just protect short term margins at the expense of consumer confidence in the brand. Especially when there's already an iffy record on pricing of software to begin with.

They better be sure to bring that RRP down fast down the line

I noticed Nintendo have revised / shrunk the Switch packaging for savings there... which to me is the smarter option.

I can't even remember another time that a console has actually gone up in price during its life, without at least some sort of benefit or upgrade as a fig leaf for it. Surprising.

                Especially as it's a luxury non-essential item

I guess the margins on the console are so small that inflation wipes out any profit.

Nintendo are probably already making a good profit on the Switch anyway. And MS have the infinite money cheat code active so they won't care.

It's more than a bit tone deaf really. I realise there are market factors but the competitors aren't raising prices and Sony have chosen not to raise prices in the US when here in the UK they're facing a lawsuit around price gouging local markets.

I dunno, £30 per unit more... I think they could have found other measures to save costs.

The first law of thermo console war dynamics. Whichever firm is incumbent will approach the next generation with an excess of confidence and an insufficiency of prudence. Ref; “the next gen starts when we say it does”, mandatory Kinect, et al.

Yeah it does seem to be a cycle of self sabotage every console gen. Sony haven't ****ed it anywhere near as hard as Xbox One but they are slipping down a slope. They need to dial it back.

It was a gifted PR slam dunk really but MS states Series S/X won't be increasing in price

Should have put it up more, that's probably too cheap. If your gross profit for Q2 has dropped to only £7B, you've got to charge more to keep the shareholders happy. Bet Sony regrets not pricing it higher at launch because they could easily have put £500 MSRP on it and it'd still be sold out (maybe more). I doubt it'll make much difference given they're still not generally available at retail.

                            Corporations gonna corporation.

I just can't believe they didn't put it up by a % everywhere it's currently available. Leaving the US untouched just feels like a massive FU to the UK, Europe and other territories.
