Rogue-like games. Stop it already, there all the same.

Yeah I didn't mind Apex Legends when it released but I realised it was only because I loved Titanfall 2 and really wanted to rekindle that.

I just find BR games in general seem to bring out the worst behaviour and most involve sheer boredom in parts.

Give me a large scale conquest battlefield any day...

Have you tried playing in the same room with seven others? Gaming doesn't get any better than that.

All mine have already been mentioned:

            Sony AAA third-person stuff
            Battle Royale stuff
            GTA
            Animal Crossing
            Call of Duty
            Battlefield

Surely there's no need to mention anything by Ubisoft? Other than the very rare gem their output is universally wank.

Undertale, I tried but it did nothing for me. Never been big on Castlevania, Contra or Metroid either.

They all have great music at least.

I would say I'm fairly diverse in terms of types and franchises but there are quite a few I can't engage with.

Fortnite is definitely one of them. It's a very weak map, coupled with very dated gameplay slapped under a construction system that effectively rewards gameplay loop breaking.

And to get an obvious controversy out of the way.

Breath of the Wild - Whilst I wouldn't say it's in the category of being one I can't play I definitely can't get on board with the general consensus. Taking all of the elements the franchise is known for it's undoubtedly the weakest of all the 3D Zelda's. Flipping that over and looking at the 'new elements' like the open world, climbing etc. It all definitely shakes up what was a very set formula but the open world is... crap. So much praise and other than it being new to Zelda I can't think of why. It's bland as hell, contains no notable locations, dungeons, caverns etc. It's just a generic open world with a climbing stamina gauge. BOTW is the biggest free pass I've ever seen gamers give an anticipated sequel and it worries me that Nintendo will rest on their laurels with the next game as a result

I really can't get into MOBAs. I've played a good handful of hours of League but I just don't find it fun and I'm really not comfortable with the time investment per match.

They need a massive time investment. I really enjoyed LoL, but that was because I'd just been burned by Diablo III and had nothing else to play at the time. I rallied a few colleagues together and off we went.

DOTA 2 is even worse. It's quite a bit deeper, and after a whole couple of months I decided that I didn't want to have to invest eight hours a day on it before I could start having any fun.

I second Undertale, a game massively undeserving of the praise lavished upon it. I played it through, bewildered. Took me 2 yrs to complete a 6 hr game. As a genre mechanic I'd suggest random battles which, after a few instances, start to generate a genuine physical revulsion in my body.

Games that “get going” after the 200h mark. No, stop it, if it isn’t good in the first 5 mins its just not good.

Yep. Got sucked into the hype of FFXIII, bought the ltd edition so felt compelled to play for 20 hours til it 'opened up' and then when I got to the point where it did actually open up I just resented it by that point and stopped playing.

I dislike MOBAs for a different reason - the way their levelling curve results in a certain attitude to play.

This is going to piss off any MOBA fans but **** it...

I feel that the reason MOBA communities are so toxic is because a match which goes well involves getting ahead on the XP curve and trying to make sure your team rides that wave to victory.

To use an analogy - it's like a fight where you kick a person over, then repeatedly kick them while they're down for 20 minutes to make sure they can't get back up.

Now I accept that at high level play, against balanced teams, that's not how the game works and it's very much a game of nuance and skill. But at low-to-medium level (i.e. the experience for the bulk of the userbase) it's more like this. Kinda like how at high level play, Starcraft is a nuanced strategy game, but at low level, it's actually a racing game - it's about which player can execute a pre-defined strategy faster.

                                Online multiplayer.

If a game says its made primarily for online multiplayer I'm out. It can be any game or genre, I just don't care for it.
I play games to get away from humanity, not invite it into my living room.
