I don't think it's much of a story.
Sony paid that X amount, but the downloads would have netted them more if they didn't take the deal. Problem is, how many of those 4m people would have actually bought the game if it wasn't free?
Im sure Xbox has the same issues... Paying so much but the downloads would have netted them more.

Lanning has always had a massively over-inflated ego, and I think he thinks Oddworld is a much bigger deal than it is. Soulstorm would never have been a big seller.
Plus, what did he think was going to happen? What was his metric for success on PS+? Would he have preferred the game to be so unappealing that only a handful of players downloaded it even when it was available for free?

Non story really, whatever deal he took was probably favourable vs his dev costs and the situation at the time, downloads for free (we’ll included in your sub) don’t equal sales.
Same as something thats downloaded tons on gamepass, just because it was downloaded doesn’t mean you would of sold those X amount of copies.
