    December 2024

    -Warhammer: Space Marine II
    -Mortal Kombat 1
    -Alan Wake Remastered
    -Under the Waves
    -Dreams

End of year total = 74 games
In the end that is a whopping 41 less than in 2023

Now to see if the new year can raise that level back up

Had a pretty slow 2024: only 22 games completed. Many of them were either remasters or ports of games I'd completed on other platforms. Hopefully I can get those numbers up this year.

Finally got to the end of Baldur's Gate 3 (90 hours in the end, but I had to restart at 25h back closer to the launch due to a game breaking bug which CTD) - so about 65 hours to reach the end. Final battle wasn't a fair fight, lots of save scumming required, but overall, BG3 is must play game for the tabletop RPG like story and narration. It's a true classic.

            February 2025

The plan continues to keep a heavy mix of short titles to keep things mixed up and not have anything feel like a slog, makes the longer titles easier to digest without a sense of getting over stale. Mixing that with a veyr clean approach of being willing to drop something if it doesn't click or feels like too much effort rather than drag yourself through a title because it's one off the checklist.

            -Infinity Nikki
            -Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising

Lost Records: Bloom and Rage. DontNod's latest "choices matter" game, but here the choices really don't matter very much at all. The gimmick here is the main protagonist has a 90s VHSc camcorder and you record stuff. I can't say that the main characters were particularly compelling but it looks nice, so there's a good engine here. It's on PSN if you want to play it, I'd go that route. Took me about 7 hours to reach the end.

                Monkey Island

We bought MI2 back in the 90s but I only got around to playing the first game this year. I bought MI1/2/3 on sale from GoG and played them on my iPhone using ScummVM.

I consulted gamefaqs a number of times when I cba traipsing around and most of those times I probably would’ve just given up on the game.

It was a good laugh, and it was nice seeing how it progressed to…

                Monkey Island 2

Considering I hadn’t played this since the 90s, it was lovely how much of it just came flooding back. Scenes I haven’t throught about in years would play and I’d suddenly remember how they’d end. I remembered many of the puzzles as well. I still hit the guide when I got stuck.

                Curse of Monkey Island
First time for this, too. The interface took some getting used to (and is clunky on iPhone because you need to long tap to get the context menu), and I almost gave up barely twenty minutes in and hit the guide. I’m glad a did, because the game is a cracker.

Gorgeous to look at and listen to, although the cutscenes were weird. I don’t know if they were bugging out or what, but even the ending is barely an ending.

                  Avowed

Took me about 30 hours to finish and I ended up turning the combat difficulty down - that side of the game does improve as you spend points on skills and improve weapons, but it was the exploration, story and game world that I really enjoyed (I don't completely finish many games these days). I did quite a lot of the side-quests, but there's still more to do and quite a bit more map to explore, so I may well go back to this to finish those off as well. Thought the game looked great and it ran well on my PC, with only the very occasional frame hitch.

I'd rate Avowed as 8 Skyrims out of 10

Completed the main quest in Atomfall with the Dr Garrow ending, but I can't say I enjoyed the game all that much. The levels are just too maze like, the combat is pretty annoying and despite having a huge map, that's not really that much exploring to do (I was disappointed I couldn't go climbing the mountains). The lack of fast travel just drags out the tedium of navigating it.

I'd give this one a 6 it's not Fallout New Vegas out of 10.

Disney Dreamlight Valley was... surprisingly fun! I couldn't keep away from it but eventually had to finish the main quest or I'd be playing it for at least another several months. There's still lots of characters to unlock and level up, but I need to move on.

This is next on my list. Doesn't seem too long for the main quest assuming I don't get sidetracked.

                          Batman Arkham Asylum (Steam Deck)

Played through this on easy. Thoroughly good fun, especially once I’d remapped one of the rear buttons into a rapid fire A button for all those silly moments when you need to rapid fire the A button (such as removing vent covers).
