Yeah that seems to be what is happening. Why didn't they do these extreme acquisition years ago? It sounds like they're losing patience and now throwing money at it.

Because it wasn't in the main interests of the larger company. With Spencer in charge of gaming/xbox and Satya Nadella buying into it (literally) they've gone into supporting game pass long term 100% and have a steady, diverse portfolio across all areas (mobile, pc, console, cloud).

Remember when they decided they're going to go all in on TV?

At least here they're clearly positioning themselves to be big and well supported purely in the gaming space. I do hope that with this news they don't overload on FPS and RPG with a look to diversify the talent into other genres once in control but it is crazy to think you're going to get Halo, COD and Doom all under one roof.

Well, they are going to publish games on X Box on PC, so it's not exclusive...

I don't know why they didn't just spend the money developing the existing IPs they already own....like 3 years ago... So the new console had a tonne of games at release.

Buying a massively successful company like Activision isn't a short term solution to bolster your library of exclusives. We have two big games that are now xbox exclusive from Bethesda but as of yet Starfield hasn't been seen running outside of a FMV style trailer, and Elderscrolls isn't even penciled in for release yet.

if Bethesda is used as a bench mark. and the Activision merger is successful and stays on schedule to be completed by late 2023, my guess would be 2025 at the earliest before we see anything exclusively for xbox.
