    IP Man: Nintendo

Three big players and none have been around as long as Nintendo, the company who's success each generation is the hardest to predict. The company has enjoyed a huge level of success this generation and whilst it likes it exist in its own lane it faces the market realities of having its competition hoovering up IP around it and now living in the shadow of the WiiU which went to prove that the company cannot assume that its big name franchises will necessarily support a system.

They also have long complacent periods with the Switch having relied quite hard at times on ports from the WiiU. Next generation the company won't be able to repeat that trick leaving many belated sequels and IP in waiting for Nintendo to gear up production on should they choose.

Never the less, there's a need to appeal to a broad cross section of gamers and Nintendo often leaves a lot on the plate for its rivals to eat up.

Three key players means three distinct franchise line ups

    Bring back F-Zero...

The ones that I would love to see brought back are Wave Race and Pilotwings. It's an interesting challenge to consider how it might satisfyingly be done as a full price game, however. These days the sort of skydiving that was a main portion of the game in Pilotwings is just something you do to get into the map in a modern battle royale.

A Riders Republic, or Wii Sports Resort, type title is perhaps the most plausible method of doing it.

I would say StarFox as a galaxy spanning Elite Dangerous clone, but accessible and fun.

If Starfox Command and Adventures didn't work, I really don't see why this would.

Memo to Nintendo EPD: No more Starfox gimmickry, please.

Just make a better version of 64, or give us a better version of Zero without the sh1t controls, or just don't bother at all.

For me, I'd like to see the Golden-Age IPs return.

Punch-Out!!, F-Zero, Starfox, 1080⁰, Wave Race, etc. That kind of thing.

I think where Nintendo would struggle with Games like Fzero and Waverace is making them relevant to today's audience these racers where titles that showboat the hardware, the water physics in Wave-Race and how it affected the jetski's was something that drew a lot of praise on the N64, likewise fzero was a mode 7 showcase so its not gonna do that on hardware that is years old now.

                -1080 or WaveRace

Really want another of these... But I also hate the GameCube versions. So there might be a "be careful what you wish for" here.

                -Fire Emblem

I want Nintendo to make a Fire Emblem fighting game. Because that means we might get fewer in future of its characters showing up in Smash, and I think you could represent them better.

                -F Zero

Would love a new one, but honestly, they could just rework GX for the Switch. Minor visual touch-up (just some basics like reworking the UI for HD displays, fixing any obvious jank caused by the new resolution), add maybe online play, 8-player splitscreen or some other daft twitter-trend-magnet feature. I would happily buy this if they do that minimum amount of work.

                -Golden Sun

I think this one has laid fallow for some time, and could come back. Would be nice to see Nintendo tackle this sort of JRPG in-house.

                -Mario Strikers

This. The GameCube one was shockingly good. It's been that long that you could just have another stab at the same formula.

                -Dr Mario (and others)

I would love a "Nintendo puzzler collection" for Switch. Collects together/updates their 5 or 6 main puzzle games. Given the Switch is portable, I'm surprised this was never made.

                -Nintendo Land

Not sure exactly how they would do this, as it was very dependent on the WiiU's esoteric features, but I absolutely loved this and want to see another. We had parties at our place where we'd put this on, and it'd descend into utter chaos with everyone screaming at the TV over the Animal Crossing and chasing Mario games.

                -Ring Fit Adventure

Love it. I think I got up to day 250 recently. It's one of the best things they've done in years. Just MORE.

                -Star Fox

Yes. Just keep Miyamoto away from it. No high-concept. It's about a character called Fox and his team, in space-ships, in a furry Star Wars knock-off shooting stuff on-rails and sometimes in more free-form situations. It's not about "metamorphosis" or anything like that. It's defined by what it is. Make that please.

This needs a rest, because the last one, despite having some fun-looking features, ended up being easily the worst of the bunch - which was odd, because prior to this they'd generally gotten better over time. The only game mode in the latest that was worth it was Rugby; they managed to screw up what's supposed to be one of the most straightforward gaming genres, of which Sega themselves arguably made the best one ever (Decathlete). Honestly, so disappointing. I pre-ordered it, got it at launch and I had to sell it within a week lest I'd be left holding this turkey when its value crashed.

Personal tilt; I've never liked these games or any of the follow-ups or the recent ones, and whenever Nintendo announce one via their Directs I alt-tab until the announcement's over.

                -Mario & Rabbids

Everyone seems to love this, so super-selfish here, but I tried it and just coudn't get on with it. No interest in seeing more.

Yeah. That and in their early incarnations they're much too content light. You basically had a few cups and that was it. GX had the story mode at least (which, actually, I hated because I found it too hard at the time).

To make them work you would really need to rethink how they were structured for a modern audience. But I think it's an interesting challenge that I would love to see Nintendo tackle.

I mean it would work if they actually put some effort into it from a decent dev, instead of these half assed jobs thrown together by the tea boy

Have you played Starlink? It's kinda as close to this as you're probably going to get.

You say this about every game

My view is that if you want to play Waverace 64 and F-Zero GX, they're right there. I don't need the exact same thing again. I would rather see them try something new and balls it up than have the franchise do nothing or just reissue the old game in HD.

Not quite every game and I would like to see another stab at WaveRace, with all the modern tech.

Kill Pokemon or give it to a developer that might actually try. The abomination that is the new Legends game should be the last straw, but Pokemon fans are deeply sick and allow the abuse to continue.
