Apologies, as I know SoR4 is a bit divisive here given the state the thread about it reached. Just people clearly love it and it's a follow-up to one of my favourite games ever. I would really love for it to click.

I guess it's worth a revisit? I just find that it's almost never that anyone can truly explain why something works for them in a way that will really influence anyone who just didn't like it. But yeah, it could be worth giving it another shot now that time has passed. Sometimes our very first play is tarnished by expectations but we can see it for what it is once we go back to it without those - that happened to me with Doom3.

dataDave, yes, I've played SOR4 extensively and I'm in the camp who loves it, and fully agree the same team should do a new Golden Axe as well as SOR5.

99% of this forum is dredging up half remembered reasons for enjoying (or hating) stuff! Don't take that away from us!

I find Sega's position with games like SoR4 and Sonic Mania really fascinating, and I don't doubt for a second that there are other developers looking on and daydreaming about getting that once in a lifetime shot to pitch a new Panzer Dragoon, Golden Axe, etc. I'd love to see more of them happen provided they are similarly selective about who gets to try them. At least if it doesn't pan out, then there's always the "Bomb Rush Cyberfunk" approach

Titles like Scud Race still not being ported is really gutting, and going on a few years from that I think Virtua Cop 3 is another huge missed opportunity.

Virtua Fighter 6 is proper pipe dream material for me, and just thinking the words "OutRun 3" does funny things to my insides.

I love Golden Axe, but I doubt an updated one would be anything very good. Sega have made one excellent sequel (RODA), one OK sequel (Golden Axe 2), one crap one (Golden Axe 3), a crap updated version (the PS2 game) and a few **** spinoffs (Saturn, Game Gear, Master System and PS360 games). I'm happy enough to have RODA on my Astro City - I'm not going to get excited if they announce Golden Axe 4.

Out Run 2 is another matter.

Yeah but to be fair that was Sega of old that did that to Golden Axe. The SoR4 guys would have a field day with it.

I absolutely loved Golden Axe during 1989 and early 1990. It was probably my favourite game. But then I was on holiday with a friend at Cala Gran Caravan park near Fleetwood and they had a shiny new Final Fight cab in their arcade and that was that, pretty much.

If the proper care and attention were put into it Sega could outsource Burning Rangers 2 to Platinum
