It's strange to me that they would build an open world Sonic and choose to make the presumably primary environment so generic.

There are bits in there that I quite like the idea of, I think open world Sonic has interesting traversal possibilities that it looks like the game might explore. But overall, it looks unfortunately quite dull.
    100% the same here!

It feels a bit like a modern Y's game with Sonic thrown in, or should I say hacked in. Dull boring and why why must we grind on rails......

I mean at least in sonic Adventure they were in the city environment, these are just thrown all over and look completely out of place.

Sega really have lost their sole, I'm off to play Sonic 2 to make myself feel better

There definitely seems to be a lack off fluidity , the stop start nature of some parts seems to go against the whole Sonic experience

I thought it looked like Sonic was put in Xenoblades world

Watched some vids and it looks empty and rough. Like an early tech demo.
Fans are calling for it to be delayed but I don't think that would even help. Its clearly been made by a team who have never worked together before.

It's a bit gutting to read the impressions as after I watched bits of that I thought; That looks great, really open landscapes you can run around and enjoy the speed, some great looking movment, I wonder if this will be up their with Sonic Adventure? Then you read the general opinion and it's so out of whack with what my inital impressions are.

            The only real issue I cottoned onto was;

But aside from that, I personally think it looks promising. I loved Sonic Adventure but after that it's been a wilderness for Sonic. I loved Sonic Pocket Adventure on the Neo Geo Pocket and Sonic Mania was blinding but I've found I've not gone back to that one much. Hopefully, Frontiers stacks up.

Sonic Generations is ok thanks to the SeriesX hdr and 60fps update. Picked it up recently as my nephew is absolutely sonic nuts and was surprised to be honest.

Oh it's a great game, except for the final couple of bosses.

Not that big a fan of Generations, it's one of those games that on the benchmark of modern Sonic's holds up okay but has too many shortcomings to ever really feel fun.

its missing the colorful enemy's and the stylized trees bumpers boxes bridges loop the loops and pretty much everything that makes a sonic game a sonic game except sonic. Why they cant take a game like sonic adventure and just remove all the boring wander around a town bits i don't know. Sunshine is whats missing and Sega need to get that 90s sunshine colour back into their games. also how the hell do they do casino zone in a game like this.

It reeks of Sonic Team and Sega not understanding their own property anymore. Even if you look at the success of the films in reflection of this game it makes zero sense. If I were them I'd get another reveal out of another area or location etc showing the main flow of the game assuming there even is one as in these vids there's no sign one exists.

It's so stylistically dead. If sonic wasn't in it, it could be anything.
Where are the Green Hill Zone checkerboards and loops? Or the TVs or colourful robots? Like half the design work is already there for them, they just had to build it into an open world.
Its like they've taken an off the shelf open world and slapped Sonic in it.
On the video he's literally running at breakneck speed and the environment is completely empty.

Lots of pretty up close pop up too which isn't going to be great in a fast game
