Yeah, I don’t disagree about the WiiU being pretty useless to be honest. The fact that even 3D World and other key first party games made zero use of it speaks volumes.

I like the idea of wirelessly casting the Switch to the TV, though.

Would honestly trade both of my WiiUs for a Virtua Boy in a heartbeat.

Virtua Boy is now very much a highly desired cult gaming collector's item.

The WiiU will never ever get to that point and I'll heavily wager that with you.

In fairness, that could be decent if Nintendo find a way to do it without the experience being significantly bogged down by lag.

Not even by a long shot.

Having the option to have HUD, map, inventory on a second screen is sorely missed. I love minimal huds but drarely feel I can turn them all off (if it's even an option)

The multiplayer games that made use of the assymetrical gameplay were fun too, but far too few of them actually utilised it sadly.

Lastly the ability to just transfer the whole game to the controller screen came in handy from time to time when wanting or having to free up the main TV. Got a fair bit of use out of it.

            Definitely by a long shot.

The vast majority of WiiU games didn't utilise it properly - you've pretty much alluded to this yourself!

Towards the end, the screen on the thing was either lazily used as an alternative second screen (a very far cry from what Nintendo promised or envisioned for it originally) or just totally switched off.

On top of that, it was uncomfortable to use with crappy screen resolution and crappy battery life, and that's not even mentioning the way you had to essentially be tethered to the machine with it - no range at all.

Absolute garbage. Easily the worst all-time Nintendo peripheral and it's not even close.

No, no its not, the virtual boy was a heap of vomit when it came out and its a heap of vomit now. The WiiU has a decent library thats that still lives on a sells strongly thanks to the switch, mario kart 8 is approaching 50m sales.

Honestly, it gets a bad rap the wiiu but its an underrated console with a strong library and laid the foundation for the switch in every way. The tablet screen while not providing anything revolutionary was useful when my tv failed and I couldn’t afford a new one, I continued to use it just out of convenience for quick blasts, just like people use the switch now.

Yes it is. The Virtual Boy is a clear cult collector's item now. Go look at the prices it fetches in the reseller's market. Meanwhile, you couldn't pay people to take WiiUs, and I'm saying that as somebody who has two of the bloody things in my house!

Virtual Boy is easily more desirable than WiiU in 2022 and it's simply not a contest.

You're deluded if you think the WiiU is anything other than completely irrelevant now. The fact that Nintendo have reheated its greatest hits for the Switch absolutely says it all - now literally no point in owning one whatsoever.

Bad rap fully deserved. A lame duck of a console with a pure garbage controller in the Gamepad.

                        I definitely will.

I wanted the WiiU to succeed.

                        It didn't. It sucks sh1t.

Even Nintendo now pretend as if it never existed.

Let's accept the reality instead of trying to be revisionist about it.

One game that I think had the potential to use the WiiU quite well was Breath of the Wild. The Sheikah Slate was an obvious in-game analogue for it and, having just googled it, Aonuma is on the record stating that it was designed to be.

I think the game would have been enhanced by the ability to access an interactive map on the touchscreen. Windwaker HD had that feature and it worked really well. I wonder if some shrine puzzles might have called upon the player to use it also in earlier versions of the game.

In the end of course, the screen is completely unused. I assume this was to guard against the possibility that the WiiU version might have been considered 'definitive' by reviewers and therefore run the risk of overshadowing the Switch version.

Contorting the Divine Beasts could have been done without having to access a menu. I honestly don’t think it’s that much of an enhancement, and on our second run of the game right now I’ve completely forgotten about the WiiU game pad and how it could have worked.

In terms of HDMI streaming technology this is the closest thing I've seen that fits the bill. The experience is almost zero latency.

If you want to get better at the game you have to keep tapping the map button anyway whenever you get a spare split-second, so you can see where your team needs more ink. It's the best habit anyone can get into. You can super jump from there by tapping up, down, left or right to jump to a teammate. It's much less distracting (and certainly more intuitive when you're under pressure) than having to pull your eyes off of the main screen to look at and interact with a separate map.
