Tried the Xbox version and whilst it's not running at 8 FPS it has clear frame rate issues. Tried it on the resolution mode (it's like driving in treacle) and the performance mode which cannot maintain its framerate, has stutters and tearing all over the place.

Not going to be touching this one.

I played it on PS5 and didn't have any technical issues in Performance.

I actually thought the introduction to the game was really cool, in the way that you blast through a ton of different styles of race very quickly. With one rolling start after another, you're offroading in a Bronco, then driving an F1 car on a track, then cruising the highway in a classic convertible. It was almost the promise laid out by Ratchet and Clank of leaping from level into another (although there are some loading times between levels, they're relatively well concealed and mostly just serve to give you a short break).

The 'characters' and 'dialogue' and dudebro folderol all games of this nature have to have is absolutely cringemaking and tiresome, of course (I don't understand why racing games can't be legitimately cool like they were in the 90s).

The handling is a bit stiff but seems OK, I guess. The environment is visually very lush and quite beautiful. I think it's a nice place to spend time.

I didn't get to a point where I got to fly a plane or drive a boat unfortunately before I had to log off.

It's not a game I'd be shelling out for but maybe one I'd put some time into if it came up on PS+. I can see it being quite relaxing.

I'm beginning to circle back around to this again. Repeatedly hearing that the franchise has fully sorted out its handling model now and that whilst its overly familiar to Horizon fans the variety is welcome and the world map is better than any Horizon entry.

They have a free four-day trial period at launch, so as there's no cost involved I'll take a look to see if the performance issues are fixed - I did quite like the structure of the game, but the PC version running at 8 FPS on a RTX 4090 at 1080P was pretty ridiculous by any measure.
