Bethesda’s space opera takes what people loved about Fallout and Skyrim, and casts it across an enormous…

      first review in from VGC

      tldr its amazing but.....

While the majority of our 100 hours with the game have been on the PC version, which runs impeccably, it’s worth mentioning that we’ve also spent a significant amount of time on the Xbox Series X version. The downsides to the Series X version were previously known, namely the 30fps visuals, but sadly, that’s not where the shortcomings end. During our time with the game, the console version was significantly buggier than our PC journey, and the load times were sometimes very long.

The whole Starfield experience is here, and you’ll still have a wonderful time playing it on Xbox, but it’s worth noting these downsides if you have the option of playing the game on a powerful PC instead. Bugs and loading times could be improved in the future, but the 30fps visuals are less certain.
the loading times are gonna be the thing that pees me off the most no doubt, how i ever got the full gamerscore for oblivion ill never know, the poor load times has to be down to xbox cheaping out on their ssd tech i really dont see how they get away with charging so much for such crap speed gen 4 nvme drives.

Any word on the lil ol Series S version?

Not too shabby according to DF. 30fps is a bit of a shame. I enjoyed playing Fallout 4 on Series S at 60.

7s from IGN and GameSpot, 75% from PC Gamer. Some higher scores from other sites but those jumped out.

Seems there's not a lot of space travel in it, just lots of clicking on a map and watching a cutscene of you landing on a planet.

Most of the reviews I've seen have said this is a highly polished, must-play RPG, the IGN sounds like the outlier.

I wasn't expecting it to unlock until late Friday, but it apparently will be available at 1AM BST.

Regarding the Starfield Premium upgrade via Game Pass, if I snag that, I own the game regardless of being subbed to Game Pass?

No, you'll own the premium pass. If for any reason the base game left Game Pass, you'd have to buy the base game to play it.

                  Aren't they doing a balls-out physical day-one collector's edition with a helmet, or something?

Looks alright. Not sure I'd buy it at €400, though.

IGN probably didn’t get their cheque for the advertising, sorry I mean “review”.

Console version sounds like a dead duck out the gate, perfectly good ssd in the SeriesX no excuses whatsoever for poor loading, and no 60fps on console is just lazy.

I'm waiting for DFs review/breakdown to accurately see the performance.

It's already out... Actually looks/runs really well on both consoles from their analysis.
