I mean particular types of games are great to fall asleep to in bed at the end of the day. Slay the Spire for example, but that's as far as I go with gaming on a mobile phone. I see why in terms of business why you'd want to get into that, but for me it's not a primary gaming platform. I want boots on the couch, TV and controllers in the ground.

We're not talking just general / basic games any more.
As an example here is Resident Evil running on an iPhone Pro 15 which ok runs at just 720p/30fps and wouldn't look that great on a large TV but the key point is advancements are rapid in this area and the sheer number of mobile phones out there makes the console market look tiny in comparison.
Won't let me timestamp, skip to 13.47 they show handheld and at 14.20ish they show running on a monitor using a PS5 controller.
This is running natively btw... not streaming.

To get a chance at a top tier character is a 1-80 chance via its in game banners. Like every good hustler It kind of draws you in early on with tons of free premium currency which slowly dries up. So its cheap at first just don't get hooked on spinning the wheel for new characters as its 300 premium currency per banner pull mid game at a cost of £2.60 per wish. Worst case scenario you could spend £208 per Tier 1 character. to max them out your talking 6 times that.

No way Nintendo will splash out on a SoC like the A17. Way too expensive. Even once you trim out all the features you wouldn’t need like that would still be a huge costly chip. It’s a shame there’s nothing like the A / M series chips available to Nintendo as I’m sure they could do great things with that level of CPU and GPU power.

The main factor with the mobiler market when it comes to gaming is how aggressive it is. Microsoft is likely looking at it so seriously because they perceive that there's little room for growth within the fairly stagnant console space. With games companies and console makers we've seen movements around mobile gaming but it's been the equivalent of toe dipping, often ending up with withdrawing from the space because getting a hit in that area is even harder than in the one they already occupy.
Personally, I think MS will see a good chunk of growth from tapping into mobile more. I think they'll be disappointed by the extent that they manage however. Performance in mobiles is progressing impressively but even with such a narrow gap we've still not seen that meaningful a shift. It's a massive market but still remains effectively its own thing and I feel the time has passed for big shock market changes on that front.
Likewise, other players like Apple or Google swooping in to take up MS's place if they exited the market. Just don't see anyway at all that would happen. Google has already circled it and dropped it likes its hot, no way they would put the money and effort required to make it remotely workable to enter the space now especially if MS became a massive textbook case for why major players should exit the business.
Apple very clearly have zero interest. It would have already happened, no way they'd enter it now. When Apple even circles an area they will often skirt around the edges rather than bulldoze in which is why despite their success Apple TV and VR aren't talked about in the same breath as their rivals. It's why their phones host loads of games but their own investment in the area is so light by comparison. The scale of dethroning Nintendo and Sony would be too expensive for anyones tastes at this point and even if they did they'd be trying to hold a market that is relatively small change to their business. Console gaming is vastly more important to Nintendo and Sony so it would make more sense from a comparitive scale company but there it wouldn't happen because a company that size would be more likely to financially ruin itself.
After Sega left it's effectively blind luck that MS was niave enough to think it could wade in and instantly take over. If they had a fraction of the foresight of how it would go that they should have I doubt they would have ever put the Xbox into development. For me, I see Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft as being the last platform holders there will ever be in the console space and we're riding them out.

The first razer kishi was wobbly, the past few are solid as is the backbone.
For me the issue of handheld gaming on a mobile phone is the form factor. They're all 21:9 or similar wide ratios so streaming a 16:9 title is an awful experience.
I would much prefer a chunkier phone in the right aspect ratio or better support for crop/zoom or resize.
I feel everything up until now though had just been testing the various methods and eventually someone will nail the convergence setup that works for most people over most use cases.

It’s not even the first time AAA has appeared on iPhone - many moons ago Bioshock was ported.
Even now, older handsets could probably easily run many PS4 games - phones have easily outclassed the Switch in raw power for years. There could be loads of full blown console games on mobile by now if consumers demonstrated a desire for them.
But there isn’t a demand and I think with good reason. To be able to play these games satisfactorily I either need a bulky expensive add on like a Backbone, or a full blown pad. It’s not especially appealing. Not to mention a single AAA takes up half the storage of a base 128GB handset.
