That's why I put W11 on an external card in it, anything less simple I can just run that way which I find more familiar. Though the side order there is that most affected stuff on that side of things is stuff that isn't an option at all on console anyway. From games via Steam themselves, like on my PC most have run without the need for tweaking and those that have have needed less than a one off few minutes. The Deck bricking sounds a pain, curious what set that off though the devils advocate in me wants to defend it with







That being said it may vary depending on what is being run on the Deck. So far, anything with wow factor I've run via PC instead so as not to lose that aspect.

Soapbox time again! My latest "Steam Deck is not a mass consumer product" gripe is the dock. When I first got it and it didn't output video properly, I'd wondered if it was to do with using an old HDMI cable from the dock to my amp that didn't meet the same standard that the amp then went to the projector with. I bought a new cable, and turns out no, it wasn't that, it's just some other problem. Is there anywhere meaningful to troubleshoot it from the system? Is there ****. Searching online tells you people have all kinds of issues with it, from not supplying the right amount of power (I'm using the lead they provided with it) to needing to turn off some settings on your TV (I can't find any CEC options on my projector), to just shrugging your shoulders and walking away. No doubt I'll try it on another display and it'll be just fine, so for now I'm falling into the shrug my shoulders and walk away camp.

Don't mind me, just wanting to vent once again that there is no escaping this thing being a PC, no matter how much it looks like a Switch.

Are you using the official dock or some chinese knock-off?

It's probably an output resoultion issue - put the Steamdeck's external display into safe mode and try it. You'll probably need to undock and set this and re-dock. Should output to most screens in that mode, then you can troubleshoot.

See this the other day, then realised after some fiddling i DIDNT format my ssd for UEFI to eventually upgrade to w11/12 etc. So im going to have to do that at some stage, what a pain.

Some nice upgrades, not least more RAM and higher speeds is a nice boost and them getting rid of the XM eGPU port in favour of a second USB C is great.

I can't help but wish they'd upgraded the screen to an OLED as the Steam Deck has spoiled me but this is sounding like a decent second revision.

Yeah I've been reading the horror stories. Pretty crazy and another reason I'd be put off though they have apparently fixed the SD card issues and switched to using a 2280 size nvme ssd which makes upgrading cheap.

Is it possible to buy the SoCs featured in these PC handhelds in SFF systems?
I'd like something to play shmups that are only on Steam like the recently released Devil Blade reboot but don't won't my old AMD FX / GTX 960 system cluttering up the living room and sucking up loads of juice considering the work loads I'd be asking of it. My crummy 'Doze 10 laptop is too feeble and my 14 year old MacBook isn't much help either.

That'd likely out-perform it as it'd have less thermal constraints and would be able to put more power through the APU.

I'd keep an eye on ETA Primes youtube channels he reviews a load of those small form factor units and puts them through some gaming and emulation setups.

One thing I did think was cool recently was a retro corps re-review of the Lenovo Legion Go where he said most of his initial gripes about that machine had been fixed, mostly by the community... Including to grips to help with ergonomics and a shell to allow tate mode for vertical shooters
