Ouch, wonder if the other 4 in the world are going to appear?

Must admit when I first saw it, I thought it was a home paint-job, since to me, it looked quite tacky.

Obviously not to someone who saw fit to splash ?3000 on it.

It's not a home paint job, it's not a fake signature and it's not a fake. A few were given as prizes in a competition in one of the DC magazines in Europe.

I've seen one with my own eyes and it looks kind of cool.

Exactly. The Sakura Taisen DC looks like a home botch-job in pictures, but I bet it looks well pretty in the flesh.

If he really got ?3k for it then good luck to him

Now we need to find whoever it was that has that much money knocking about to buy a games machine - I mean, with all the stuff in the world that you can buy, why spend 3 grand on a games console...?

I have a super special limited edition NES that I have modified for Nintendo (I spraypainted a Mario figue on the top of the case) going for ?500 if anyone's interested...

The point is that it is a official console that's made in limited quanities. It's signed and as Mr Naka doesn't sign many things it's increased the worth of the console. The Sonic 10th Aniversary console is one of the hardest DCs to find, which is why you rarely see them on Rare Ltd Ed Dreamcast consoles lists.

Why buy a pair of Levis for ?80 when a pair of ?10 jeans will do?

I dunno where you're getting your Levis from if they're costing you 80 quid but I take your point.

The jump from ?200 (on release) to possibly ?3k is a huge inflation in price though. Okay, so you get the Sonic branded DC with the sig on it, but the machine will not do anything different to a normal DC.

If a signed copy of DC Sonic was to surface anywhere, surely it's price would not increase 15 times?! Okay, so the console is as rare as a bleeding steak but you need to be a 100% committed serious collector to go after it.

I love my videogaming hobby and wax far too much time and money on it each month. At the end of the day though, videogaming is a hobby for me and one that could never justify that level of expense.

?3k is not a realistic price for a videogame machine !

The whole videogame 're-sale' scene is definitely very interesting at the moment. Lord knows what will happen in a few months/years time when Tekki starts becoming a rare curio rather than a cutting edge videogame.

I can't see anything that will make prices go down in the near future - why would rare games suddenly be worth less - I can't think of any reason so I assume prices for the stuff thats rare now will keep increasing with time.

So this guy paid 3k for this DC what will he do with it? surely not risk breaking it by playing it - it will just sit in its box for god knows how long - he won't be able to sell it for a profit for a long, long time so whats the point in it??

The same reason why people have several million quid painting on their walls, not because they have any function but because they are rare, collectable and desirable.

Rare consoles will always go for silly money, they will stop being silly money if hundreds appear on the market.
