I cant ever see myself giving up completely.

I have found as I get older I can no longer dedicate the time needed to play long blown out games and just play in short bursts .

Even as a 30 something I still get excited when a new piece of software or hardware Ive been looking forward to gets released

That's the nightmare for me - I'm certain that proper shoot em ups and beat em ups will still be produced in the future. I'd absolutely hate it if it was all realistic first person VR style games - that would make me give up gaming for certain.

With apologies to Charlton Heston - when they pry the joypad from my cold, dead hands.

Right now gaming is turning for me from a mainly solo experience into a great shared experience with my kids (especially the oldest who is nearly 5). Yesterday we played Wind Waker for about 3 hours then Mum & Younger Sister joined in for 4-player Super Smash Bros. When I have grandkids we'll have three generations of hardcore pwnage!

I quit whenever my idiot friend canes me whilst shouting "whats the punch button again?"!

Tell me about it. After a 6 month abstainance from VF4 recenlty got thrashed by a friend who's hardly even seen it, he has hands that can turn into a blur of button bashing sadism. ft:

I know this sounds amateurish but what is "pwning" someone please?

I get what it means, but where's it come from?

When I had down to uni this Autumn, the plan is to take as much of my gaming setup with me as possible, I suspect it won't be that easy, so I could see my gaming tail off dramatically at that point, but I can't see myself quitting altogether for a very long time to come!

Well, I'm 46 next month and so should have been gaming since the start.
However, as I've only been playing for about four years, I'll just have to carry on for decades to make up for it ... (ignores increasingly common reminders of mortality)

I could quit almost any hobby apart from gaming I honestly don't think I could enjoy a life without playing/researching/experiencing games

Once I start a family, I sure as hell won't be quitting games - my kids are going to respect Virtua Fighter and Final Fantasy or I'll disown the ignorant little bastards

But I doubt I'll be playing many 'current' games in 10+ years...I don't like the way the industry is heading. There are still dozens of new games that I really want to play but they are a huge minority I've got a feeling these games are going to disappear more and more each generation

Say the games are ****e in 15 years time for all of old fart like us, there is alway retro gaming we can play I hope the game industry will remember an aging population in a decade time and don't rely on 12-25 age group.

Could it be that nobody actually knows what 'pwning' is?

I sure as hell don't, but then I've never used it either.

Probably when the console market becomes like the PC market - the same games over and over but with nicer graphics. Or if EA makes a console, which goes on to become the biggest selling format of all time due to Fifa 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008.... Or if Nintendo finally does kick the bucket, like all those lame-ass games journos seem to be saying every 5 minutes.
Even then i'd still play the older stuff.

For me it will be when I am satisified enough in my normal life not to have to spend time doing something which has no use.

But I'm sad, so I don't know when that will be.
Superkully has described essentially what I've been feeling lately...whats the point. The days of sitting down to play hours of games on my lonesome are setting. Multiplayer (ie Social gaming) has its place. I've not given up entirely but I've cut down massively.

I only really play games in social situations now as I just find playing games on your own really unfulfilling at the moment. I doubt I will ever totally stop though unless it causes me serious health problems.

Sod the industry. I hope it burns in hell! We can make our own games. The geek shall inherit the earth!!
