It's a games magazine, they tried to make it different from the rest but now it looks like they return to safer grounds. I really should stop buying these rewriten pressreleases and press trip reports that have so many words in them but ultimately say so little.

I stopped buying it months back, it's not for me anymore. It's dumbed itself down in recent times. Their review quality has slumped dramatically, and I no longer agree with anything Edge says.

Wish there was another magazine that could replace it, but alas. Maybe I'm becoming too old and cynical

After a long? long depart from the magazine, I bought the last issue (RE4 issue) and was incredibly impressed. Thought that preview in particular was well written, informative and presented superbly. The whole mag as a whole was great imo. Haven?t got round to buying this issue yet, but will without a doubt.

Sadly though the scores mean nothing without the texts.... makes me eager to get it now though. Sadly my local One Shop doesnt sell them... dammit.

I liked the issue, but I still think Edge is a bit too fanboyish regarding the Xbox - how can they say in the prescreen that the Controller Type S set "new standards in controller design"? That pad is completely generic and offers nothing inventive whatsoever. The line on the front of the mag was also cringeworthy, looked like something you'd expect to find on the front of Xbox Gamer or something.

Something doesn't have to be inventive to set a decent standard.

              Controller S:

Better layout for ninety percent of games than Gamecube controller? Check.

              Better analogue sticks than DualShock?
              Check.

Less painful to hold over long periods than Dreamcast?
              Check.

Not as stupidly large as the original XBox controller?
              Check.

I agree that the coverline was silly though.

Saying the pad is more confortable than the Dreamcast pad is hardly saying much though, is it?

One of the worst pads ever made? Check.

Is the iQue equally uncomfortable then?

Is the Saturn NiGHTS Pad even more uncomfortable again?

Another good issue for me, and the whole thing about the controller was in the middle of a piece on how microsoft had admitted a lot of the mistakes it had made, which in fairness they have. Certainly a good read these days, looking forward to next months already.

Thought it was a good issue too; dunno if the cover story was worthy of being on the cover; certainly the most boring article in the issue for me.

I liked the interview with Kojima though, and that Chernobyl FPS article was interesting, although I have no desire to play the game whatsoever.

Also, did anyone else notice that Four Swords got a nine AND the review text also went into lengths to praise the game, rather than pull apart its faults (which I think they mentioned very few, if any at all). That and the review of Four Swords here really make me want to play it. Shame I only have one GBA though. Bah.

YOU only need one GBA. You can't play with more than one at a time now can you.

It's your mates that need a GBA!

I live with three other people who I could play with though, so I'd need at least two for them to join in, wouldn't I?

GamesTM and IGN insider for me now
its definitely my favourite games magazine; gamestm strikes me as a bit derivitave of a formula that edge came up with (just my opinion, and i know they're not THAT similar).

the design is great, and overrall it seems quite sensible...but i think it does go against the masses partly as a gimmick.

                            it.s not for everyone

Two great issues in a row. Good to see Red Eye firing on all cylinders and a heavy dose of wry humour in the "Out There" section. Nice to have Nogoshi san back aswell.... pass the vodka.

Edge still does the business for me.
