I enjoy both games loads! I've actually just ordered the Japanese International version of FFX because the PAL conversion makes me sick, but still a good game nonetheless. I'd recommend FFX, it will last longer if you really like to get stuck in and 'master' your games. Xenosaga is a long game itself, because it just goes on for that damn long (80 hours my count was I think) but getting the ultimate gears and character setup isn't all that hard, whereas FFX takes alot of work to master

If you like a long and well told story, get Xenosaga. If you like getting stuck into stats and figures and ultimate weapons and **** like that then FFX does better job than xeno is this department.

As someone said, FFX is better for the overall experience. However the games are completely two different entities that I don't bother comparing the two at all.

Both battle systems aren't exactly the greatest ever. Anyone who has played XenoGears will tell you XenoSaga falls short in comparison, and the lack of the ATB bar in FFX bores me, as I find it pretty easy and way too relaxed. The sphere grid is excellent though. Xenosaga's human combo system is so limited, and so are the AGWS.

Both games do the story part incredibly well. Anyone who denies that FFX didn't touch them must not have a soul. It's great. Xenosaga's story is told differently, being spread out through a series. It's inspired by some german author I think (can't remember the name).

Being totally honest here, I'd say that if you can get hold of all the cutscenes from Xenosaga, the actual game isn't worth playing (sad thing to say yes, but I hate the battle system, and dungeons). It's the way the story is so gripping in cutscenes that makes it worth the asking price. You may not mind the battle system much if you haven't played XenoGears yet (which I totally recommend you do so before playing this) but those who have may understand my disliking for it.

Suikoden 3は....Its very enjoyable because the battle system is very nice, and lots of characters to obtain (108 in all). I played the JP version and couldnt understand the story all too well, but I loved it because the gameplay was good.

          So my recommendation is:

          FFX > XenoGears > XenoSaga > Suikoden 3

I've played Xenogears... I didn't like the battle systems at all. There was no variation, each battle you did the exact same thing, and magic was useless. Only occasionally do you fight a boss that forces you to change tactics. If XS combat is worse than that then... ouch.

Since both XG and XS were part of a 6 chapter series, which one had the better story? I am hoping XS chapter 5 will be a remake of Xenogears. Monolith said after Baten Kaitos and XS Ep 2, they are open to returning to Square, so XS and XG may 'officially' become the same universe.

And Suikoden sounds like a very long game by the looks of it.. 106 characters?

Grandia 2 by the way I have played on the DC, and it had the most uninspired story ever. The graphics and gameplay were fun, but the story was so predictable it didn't drive me on, it didn't push me forward, which I think is important in JRPGs.

So the Tidus and Wakka in KH have no relation to their parts in FFX right?

Another thing: XGears had a strong cast of villains, does XSaga come anywhere close to that?

I dont know about how long suikoden 3 is, i got bored of it and i didn't finish it. as for the 106 characters to make the games length longer, it wouldn't make the entire story of the game longer, its just an optional quest you can do, its just replay value basically. It might affect the ending though if you get all 106 characters, like the previous games. i still think suikoden 1 is the best out of the series.

What are you on about. The battle system in xenogears was fantastic, i haven't played a battle system as fun as that. Its better than the usual select attack and watch them hit something. The deathblows were great.

Anyways, yeah there is a strong cast of villans in xenosaga most of them stay in the background for now. But one in particular is a right bastard, one of my fav villains in along time. Xenosaga has a strong voice cast aswell, which is a bonus.

The XG combat lacked customization. All you needed to do in gears was weak or medium attack then L1 Deathblow, and repeat until you win.

On foot, you just needed to execute the most powerful deathblow you have at the moment until you get a better one. You can chain them up, but it doesn't do anything that can't be achieved by executing them separately.

The FF games have more customization, and far more commands that just attack and deathblow. You can steal, you can summon, you can learn enemy skills, you can morph the enemy into items, etc...

you cant do deathblows all the time. it doesn't work like that, the less you use them the quicker you learn deathblows.

FFX's battle system is awful, it adds nothing at all. basically all you do, is gain sp points, you use these sp points on a giant board game. each sp point allows you to move one space, then you use an item called a spere to activate any spheres on the board thats closest to you.

In otherwords all it does is take away the level system to make you think your doing something totally unique in which your not at all. You just gain points to increase your stats and abilities. its the worst ff battle system ever, worse than the dreaded system in ff8. tbh in most of the latest ff games apart from seven you never really rely on them at all, they are just there.

Best battle system by far is the battle system in final fantasy tactics on the psone. sure its a strat-rpg, but its the best one ive ever used.

I think you miss understand the spheregrid mate, it's all about customization. On the sphere grid you can send someone like Auron (a hard hitting sword weilder) into a mage by sending him down different paths, get him abilities YOU want by making detours and **** like that man! not to mention that if you even plan on defeating some of the extra bosses, dark aeons and monster arena creations it's pretty much required that you go round the whole board and re-customize the nodes and activate spheres you didn't get first time round. It's a very good system IMO.

FF8's junction system was cool, only thing bad about it was spending all that time 'drawing' magic from enemies, cause if you want any decent characters you have to draw 100 of each magic you encounter and that can be a right jar. I loved the junction system though, very good way to create the character you want. 100 Ultima junctioned to STR = pwnage!

To answer the question about XS's strength of villains...well....All I will say is Albedo is the ****ing man!

I haven't played Xenosaga yet, but FFX, to my surprise, I am enjoying. It does take some time to get into it (I was cringing at the first 3-4 hours, it was abysmal), but I'm enjoying the battle system and the environments are interesting and well conveyed. Blitzball also needs to be made into a full game, stat.

Best battle system ever - Panzer Dragoon Saga on the Saturn.

FFX - definitely the best. Whoever said it has a daft story must be a bit confused, it's the most mature of them all... themes are religion, faith and bigotry and there is none of the "I just remembered, we all grew up together in an orphanage!" type stuff that brings other FF's down. You can play it through in about 40 hours and then optionally go and do all the extra stuff, which will take forever.

Suikoden 3 - really nice story and structure (chapter based, each chapter played from three different characters perspectives) - it takes a loooong time just to play the basic story, but there's not much in the way of extra missions. The battle system isn't as good as previous Suikodens but that won't matter if you haven't played them. The 108 characters are there, but many of them are little more than a name and don't really feature in the game at all. To me it's like 'Skies of Arcadia+'... similar in style but removes a lot of the problems I have with that game.

                              Worst...plot...twist...evar!

                              Seriously, what were Square thinking?!

I have yet to play XS, but FFX kept me busy during my first year at uni. Managed to get all ultimate weapons and aeons, after 120 hours of playtime!

I just recently played FF8 for the first time, I must admit the orphanage twist was rather odd. Last boss was nails too.

179hours of my life wasted/spent on FFX. Penance was a bastard.
