The Square characters barely turn up, and they certainly aren't playable. Wakka and Tidus are at the start, and do nothing of importance at all. Aeris, Yuffie, Leon (Squall) and Cid play small bit-parts in the plot, but nothing major.
The major problem is the Disney characters are much stronger. They look better, some are actually playable and the Donald/Goofy partnership is one of the greatest comedy pairings of all time. It's Donald Duck, dude! How can it fail?
The quality of the environments vary wildly (Agrabah is dire, Halloween Town is ace) and the battle system only really becomes interesting later on (Ragnorak, Mmmm).
And make sure you choose wisely at the start. If you choose the sword first, get rid of the rod rather than the shield, otherwise you'll take too much damage.
Oh, and the plot is hokum, and the ending effectively states 'Insert sequel here'. Still, Donald Duck, dude...
