I'm not going to rise to your comment that iPods are ****, but wouldn't it would be fair to also claim that Sony are equally over priced as Apple are.

They're still retailing the PS2, the 'weakest' of the 3 consoles at a price higher than the two other next gen consoles.

I would imagine, in my mind, that if Sony did try to advertise this as a lifestyle product, or a cool product in a similar way to the iPod then we'll see a high price which will slowly decrease year on year. However, if they are going to directly compete with Nintendo, then they may choose to retail at a lower price to draw sales from Ninentendo, then maintain that price for a very long time.

They certainly do look very nice though, I'm interested, however, wouldn't a huge hunk of metal like the PSP feel very cold on your skin if you have it around your neck, and don't want to advertise for muggers?

When I first saw the video that showed the Vampire game it was a real WTF!? moment. Whilst it is great to see the game on the system (and hopefully it is a sign that the system will be home to a lot more 2D titles as well as 3D stuff) my simple brain is struggling to comprehend how it has come about

I don't mean the concept of iPods, I just mean in comparison to other similar units. Compare its features, price and compatibility with the iRiver iHP-120 - my own brand of musical jukebox justice - (or 140) or even the Creative Nomad Zen (I really don't care how good they look, just play me my music - something like the PSP where I always have to look at it to use it, however...).

On the other hand I appreciate some people love the look and love the iTunes integration, but that's just not me. It really wasn't meant as a flamebait comment, I'm just tired and feeling snappy today

Yes, I do think Sony's products are unreasonably priced too, but that's a general thing across the worldly board compared to the astronomical difference in iPod prices. iPod US to iPod UK is a good ?100-150+ difference depending on your model, whilst the price gap on Sony products is closer, although still more of a rip off for us. For Sony to add ?100 onto the UK PSP would spark even more of the import steam train that's building now.

They have a very clear chance from a market point of view to smack Nintendo down here (I don't want to see that happen, but business is war) and they need to be sure not to waste it, methinks.

I really wish I had enough money to buy a GT PSP and frame it as well as one I can actually use. Such a gorgeous design.

              1) Off-topic: Yes, iRiver's range is superior to iPod feature-by-feature (e.g. digital out ), except the design of the casing

              2) PSP is not aimed at the iPod, though there are obvious overlaps with the MP3 playback. Sony's answer to the iPod is this baby:

              3) Having owned various Sony gadgets, laptops, etc. over the years, I can safely say that their products are about 50-100% more expensive feature-by-feature than their nearest rivals, even though the share exactly the same inne components. Dumb people like me buy the stuff because they look better and their marketing hits the spot. Ultimately, Sony does not care about competing on price. They compete through marketing. Arguably, Sony is the world's best marketing company.

              4) So, yeah, I'd agree that the PSP is going to enter in the ?200-250 range. I think Nintendo will own the niche 'family' end of the market with it's cheaper price. Whilst PSP will be aimed at us lot (can you imagine a 10 year old walking around with a PSP in the playground?)

Saw a few clips on the rllmuk forums but this one is quite a decent clip showing a size comparision with the gba sp, the psp is smaller than i thought.

Honestly, I really really can. The DS owning kid will be the guy that always gets picked last at footy. But, only time will tell.

Weird. Prefer the GT Special Ed.

Where are the pics of the PSP accessories eg the case etc and the Gran Turismo Special Ed PSP?

Sony doing cheap and cheerful!? You'll be saying it won't break easily like most of their other products next.

Seriously, though they claim they're not after the GB market as such. ?200-300 seems reasonable in that their intended demographic (it's assumed) will have thats ort of disposable income. We'll see...

That better include a free memory stick and/or a bundled game at that sort of price.

That must be a joke, If they ain't goin for the GB:SP market then there lieing i'm sure Sony want to dominate the handheld market. On the Sony products failing issue my Sony T.v and Playstation 2 are bout 3 yrs old n still kickin.

Wow I disappear and suddenly the whole place is changed. Anyway I touched , felt and played with it a bit at E3. It feels nice and screen is so pretty. The only thing that worries me is battery life. I guess Sony will address that at the TGS.

The interesting is that it has an analog stick. I hope its priced reasonably.

I cant see how the analog stick will work with some games but i suppose only time will tell.
