      I umm'd and ahh'd about changing my Radeon 9800pro 265Mb for one.

But I guess at the end of the day any performance gain would be minimal and not worth that sum of money ?

I think I'll wait for the next generation again before I realistically look at changing

On high detail and some other odds and sods, you're looking at the difference of 20 fps (~40 to ~60) in doom3. As we've seen in the past, when other games use the engine they add bulk to it (I think Jedi Knight was a particularly bad offender here) so that'll drop a bit again.

800*600 should be quite OK. The game engine has a code path for the GFTi series. Don't forget the X-box has a similar (Less powerful) GPU...

They are around the 380 quid inc vat from overclockers... if you have 9800XT not sure of the value of the upgrade. I have a 9800XT that I'll move into another PC that does need a major gfx upgrade.

If you definately want the game, I'd be tempted to try it on your current spec beforehand. If you're buying the game anyway, what harm will it do to check.

I agree Stu - get the game then see what happens. Its clear its not the machine humping whale that everyone was expecting.

That HardOCP report even says that it'll run OK on a ****e GF3 (yay for me!) so I won't bother upgrading for it.

And it certanily seems prudent to see how the games run on the various hardware options before upgrading! (Unless you are a hardware enthusiast)

Reading posts on OCUK is amusing! Folk have bought X800-pros, swapped to 6800 GT's then back to ATI with X800-XT's BEFORE ANY NEXT GENT TITLE HAS BEEN RELEASED! (except farcry which runs great on a 9800pro anyway...) Imagine that!

I think I'll keep my 9800pro a while longer and see what the driver revisions and hardware prices do over the coming months.

Even my old Ti4400 is running games quite nicely in my buddys XP2800 512MB home build..... He likes to run full details at 800x600 rather than medium at 1024x800 and is happy enough.
