    Got my 6800 GT today

Got my Aopen 6800 GT today:

1: install 1.1 patch for farcry or it looks ****e with the patch its lovely
2: The GT sounds like a frickin jet engine - this is really bad!
3: Geforce drivers support dual display with different resolutions AND panning desktop - woohoo!!!

hoping artic come out with a quieter fan solution

    Neil.

was going for the x800XT but with doom3 nvidia is clearly better, ultra won't fit in my shuttle so GT it had to be. The noise is driving me nuts though.

Neil seriously, how much money do you have. You always seem to be splashing out on this that and t'other.

Strange you find the card noisy. I know it has a different cooling system than the ultra.

Does the card not slow the fan down when the window's drivers install? I find my 6800 Ultra's noise level to be ok.

rep, yes it does, but its been hot round these parts and last night it was really warm so I suspect that it was at full power. Seems much more acceptable this morning. But the 9800XT I've got even at full power is way quieter.

Yeah i'd agree about the 9800xt being quieter. You overclocked your card yet?

You do know its the 1.2 patch + DX9c and beta drivers that make Farcry good on NV hardware ?

I have a GT - awesome bit of kit - you clocked urs too ultra speed yet m8 ?

I eventually scaled back on what I wanted after shopping around quite a bit.

Going for AMD 3500+ Socket 939 with Zalman HSF, Asus A8V WiFi MB, 1GB Corsair XMS PC3200 memory, 2x200GB drives (for RAID 0) - I may add another drive or 2 later. NVidia 6800 GT 256mb with Arctic Rev 4 VGA silencer. Plextor 12x DVD +/- RW. All in a black coolermaster wave master case.

Got everything from Overclockers in the end - ebuyer/Komplett would have saved me a couple of quid but not much. The RAM was the only thing ebuyer was quite a bit better on but I don't trust them at all so I went all Overclockers just for a bit more peace of mind

Should be able to OC it a bit now as well.

Whoops posted this in completely the wrong thread!!! Should have been in The Alienware Difference. Sorry.

mine is resonably loud, but everything runs so silky smooth (its part of a new p4/3.0/1024 system that i just purchased) that you just dont notice
