you need to phone up pipex and ask them for your primary and secondary DNS Servers. I'm pretty sure it's just your DNS stuff that's missing. Do you get green lights on both in Network prefs?
Try connecting Xbox live, when it Troubleshoots, does it get stuck on DNS - saying something about it not being resolved? If it does that's the problem. They need to be added manually. We'll get this sorted - 1 mac user to another!

Mate ur a legend!!!
I phoned up pipex and got the DNS addresses and put them in manually...IT WORKED!! turning the X box on first is essential!!!
I am now playing burnout 3 thanks to you're well researched Knowledge!!!
