have you spoofed your PC's Mac address on the router?

iirc Blueyonder used to restrict access via Mac address and I had to tell my router it had my main PC's mac address before I could access the net

it used to for me on Blueyonder Broadband about a year ago, and i assume BY and NTL are similar in the way they do it.

I'm on ntl and i just bought a 604 myself and i didn't have to mess with all that. Just plug and go for me. I followed the manual's long-winded connection process to the letter (the instructions on the yellow leaflet) and it all worked fine for me.

Try turning everything off and turning them on in order: modem, then router, then pc. Power cycles tend to fix missing internet connections for me with ntl most of the time

I have lost the software cd and booklet tho Ed so it is a sheer guessing game for me

Did you have to CLONE your mac address in order for this to work ?

Doesn't it ask you what the mac address of your network adapter is in the setup wizard (where you set the admin passord)? that's the only time I had to enter a mac address and that time it had already been done for me. I just had to press enter.

Its fixed, upon setup, I had TO ask it to CLONE my mac address to fool NTL cable modem into thinking the router was my pc

                  All up and working now

Thnx all for the help and advice

Agree with Edd. Have the exact same set up at home and I just used the default MAC of the router when I set it up. If you turn everything off for half and hour or so the modem will properly reset and obtain the MAC address again when you swicth it back on - this time from your router. Go through the setup wizard and you should be fine.

If this doesn't work clone your PC's MAC address (it's simple to do from the setup screen) and try it again.

If that doesn't work you need to check everything again. Start from the beginning (i.e. do you still have internet access with a direct connection to the modem) and try to eliminate potential problems from there.

Glad you could get it all up and running

Now I just have to work out how to make the bastard thing play nice with Bittorrent

your router is prolly UpNp. if so use a Upnp BT client, like Azureus

That model is definitely uPnP so Azureus will work a treat.
