    overclocking advice, please

i wanting to upgrade from 1.4gig athlon to something more faster and was thinking of buying a 2500+ xp and overclocking it as its a 333fsb processor will it overclock well ? or just buy something like a 3200 ?

what ram would i need 2700 or 3200 ? cause of the fsb speed would it get to 200/ 400 fsb

do you need to overclock the memory as well or is it just fsb speed ?

the board i'm gonna use em in is the Soltek SL-75FRN2-RL, cause i got it free.

    thanks wod

get a 2500+ and some pc3200 you will get it to 3200+ speeds without any trouble.

just up the fsb to 200 and the mulitplyer to 11 thats 2.2ghz then try to get it higher by upping the fsb in say 5mhz steps.

what memory is good to use with it as overclockers has lots of different ones.

is it a waste to buy some corsair or ocz memory ?

do i get pc 3500 to be ok when overclocking it or as you say some pc3200 ?

Crucial Value Select PC3200 will sort you out.

As mt50, the BARTON XP2500+ is grand for overclocking. Get yourself one of those, some Arctic silver thermal grease and a good heatsink (I have a all copper thermalright with a 92mm fan) and it runs cool and quiet.

i've already got a thermalright heatsink with 80mm fan , just stuck on memory

also does dual channel make much difference ?

You should get the Geil Value ram, some people have been able to hit 460+ on it and its cheaper than Cosair Value.

Thats the one I was talking about. I bought 1gb of it about a month ago but I haven't been able to push it past 400 because of my CPU

                      Ebuyer are selling DDr400 (crucial) for ?55 / 512MB. It's CAS3, but that 0.5-1 nanosecond difference between 2.5 and 2.0 is nothing in real-life (you're not a benchmark monkey are you? )

                      Nice.

The Geil value dual channel kit is meant to be superb. It's so good, I'm getting it myself in a couple of weeks. If you need help with PC stuff, try the Overclockers forum, they're really helpful and don't always force the most expensive stuff on you. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/
