    Plamsa TV Question for you...

OK, so I'm finally going to go for a (probably 2nd hand) Plasma screen. But, I have only about ?1500 to spend, and that includes begging, borrowing and stealing from pretty much everyone I know, so I'd like to keep it within that budget.

Anyone know of a decent Plasma that will give good results with both an PAL Xbox and an NTSC-J PS2?

Anyone with any experiences they can share would be much appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Will.

Oh, and with all due respect because I know everyone wants to play PS2 imports, but please - enough with the PMs and emails about PS2 modding - as I have said on my website, no more PS2 modding! Sorry guys.

Tiny are advertsing a 42" Plasma screen package for ?1300 atm. I don't know if it's any good but it does have a Samsung display and at that price it's definitely worth a gander.

      www.av-sales.com (or is it co.uk?)

have the Panasonic PW6 for about this price, not worth going for anything less.

Panasonic PW6 is the best panel out there for the money, the only other one I would consider are the Fujitsu ones or Panasonics higher resolution screens.
My mate said the Tiny one was awful when he went to see it.

Forgot to say that av-sales are excellent, I use these guys and service is first class.

Ebuyer are selling the Panny Plasma, with a video board (component, S video andsomething else) for ?1600 all in.

You really can't get anything else remotely good for that money! Do it!

Samsung, for ?1600 too, with a load of inputs. I checked out av-forums and the people who have it are very pleased.

Planing on getting this one in a few weeks.

Whatever you get mate, make sure it can do prog scan. Its even better on plasmas than on CRTs, esp with games.

I feel genuinely sorry for the people who spent 1000+ pounds on an LCD or Plasma TV that can't accept Progressive Scan. I was appalled when my dad got this Philips one that only had a SCART socket.

Thanks for all your advice. I've been doing a lot of looking around online, but often the specs pages are pretty vague when it comes to the prog scan capabilities. Can you get a prog scan compatible decent plasma around the ?1500 mark do you reckon?

Yes. If it has Component inputs it almost definitely will accept it.

When I was looking for my LCD, I called manufacturers and asked.

Also if there is a swanky department store near you, go there with some Component cables (or just use the normal red/white/yellow RCA cords) and ask to hook up a Progressive Scan DVD Player to the LCD you're interested in if they had it. I did this with John Lewis here in Glasgow and they were remarkably helpful and well informed.

I must admit I didnt have John Lewis down for some extreme techy knowledge

Good to see some dept stores taking it seriously tho.

Will let me know how you get on as Im on the lookout for a nice plasma too.

Here you can get the Panny Plasma for ?1580 including delivery:

However you will need some kind of mount for this probably which will be ?100.

You will also want to buy another terminal board if you want prog scan which is another ?100.

Another question which is the best 37 inch Plasma TV (as long it support progressive scan and HDTV) ? as I think my room is too small for 42 inch display.

Do you need a TV Will? or do you have freeview/sky to use as your tuner and a stereo for the sound?

A tv will add more to the price, or if you look at it another way, for the same price something has to give.
Why pay for a tuner, amp, speakers etc. if you are going to use external gear anyway?
Also a panel/monitor always looks neater than a plasma TV with speakers sticking out the side, and a 42" will be no bigger than a 37" too.

If you do have a stereo and use sky/freeview I would definitely go with a Panasonic PW6, with the discounts available at the moment it is a no brainer, if you had asked what to get with ?2500 I would still recommend the same plasma.

The panasonic PW6 will accept, 480i, 576i, 480p, 576p, 720p and 1080i, alot of the TVs will only accept 480p and 576p they do not like the Hi-Def resolutions.
