I had a wander down Tottenham Court Road yesterday, and compared a Zen side by side to an iPod, and the size difference didn't bother me much.

Nips - did you have a Zen Xtra? The lcd size is only fractionally smaller than the iPod now, rather than 1/2 the size like the old Zens.

The remote is a option You remove it when you don't want it put it on when you do.

I have got the Zen Xtra and I love it.

The LCD size on the Zen Xtra is big enough, the menu system used is so easy I can't imagine how an ipod could improve that much and the sound quality is amazing and as you say its far cheaper, infact I got mine new for ?160 odd

I had an old Zen, not a Zen Xtra. In all honesty I've not been near one sinse I sold my old one so I couldn't tell you exactly what the new range is like, but the size difference was just soo much.

After walking around with a Zen for 4 months, then changing to the Pod, it was like taking a weight off my shoulders. The iPod is just so sleek and slim, it'll slide in there. There is no way I could use my Zen with jeans, just too big.

I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you choose though. But, I'd personally not go near a Zen again.

            care to elaborate...?

Reading about the iRiver at the moment, and like what I'm hearing. Latest firmware update supports ogg too.

I've been really reluctant to post in this thread as I don't want to start a flame war, and I think the iPods are certainly pretty (and presumably have a better UI), but I just love my 40 Gb iRiver. Bear in mind you can get a 40 Gb iRiver for the price of a 20 Gb iPod. Which is very nice indeed. I already have My laptop's hard drive is now incredibly empty. You can have it plugged into the computer and stream music off it that way, but bear in mind it sometimes stops and stutters if you're also simultaneously writing new files to it. This is to be expected, since you are connecting via USB 2.0 as oppossed to a proper hard drive. Also I was doing it on battery power when you really ought to have it plugged in. You might as well listen to it normally, unless you have an _excellent_ PC sound system. Or just mirror the files on your computer.

So far filled 25 Gb ish with about 378 hours ish of music. Might have to delete some as I got some mp3s off other people's hard drives, whom I later found out should have no business recording mp3s (i.e. they suck at it)

Infact it was the wonderful nips who got it for me

The only thing I would change about the Zen is the fact that bands with the word "the" at the start are not sorted by the second word like Media Player.

How long does it take foe Apple to fix your iPod, I'm sending it back under guarantee and don't want to be without it for too long.......

I know, but I use it virtually everyday for hours on end.

One more thing Sigur. When you send your iPod to Apple they dont actually send you the same one back. They send you a different one so make sure you back up anything important on it.

                    Cheers.

3rd?? I don't see why the iPod is getting such good press everywhere. There are cheaper and more reliable players with more features than the iPod and you don't hear a thing about them. The only con is there ugly compared to a iPod
