My mate's getting a US iPod Mini today, and he's confused about the voltage. It says on the Apple site that the voltage is 100-240, but he doesnt want to plug it in to the wall with just a adapter in case he blows it. Will he need a stepdown, and if so, what wattage?

Apple sell a set of plugs that enable you to charge your iPod anywhere in the world. I don't think any of the plug contain transformers. But someone smarter will need to this.

Does your friend know about all the problems with iPod Mini's? There well documented earlier in this thread.

My Laptop/Phone/Ipaq/Camera Psu's all have a voltage range of 100-240 Volts 50/60Hz which means you can use them in other countries providing you have the correct plug adaptor. I used my UK nokia charger in the US last year without my phone blowing up.

I think this problem has been overcome. It was in an early batch of Minis and has sinse been resolved. Talk to Stroppa, I believe he has one, and he has had no problems... but I haven't spoken to him in a while.

Tell him not to worry - if it's the same as the normal iPod power supply (which it surely is) then it will auto-switch between 240 or 110 volts.

Also, you can simply pull the US plug adapter out and use a standard xbox/ps2 style power lead in the socket - no need to buy any extra adapters from Apple.

                      what Mp3 Drive?

I know you guys have alot of IPODs, I was wondering do you rate any other mini-harddrive based mp3 players. I was looking at getting a xclef hd-500 or 800 after reading up a bit, other popular ones seem to be the Creative zen, but I hear that needs software to use it as a storage device, basiclly I am looking into using it as a mass storage device/mp3 player. I found alot of them some good some bad, some do what I want and some don't, some are overpriced for what I need. So guys I am asking again what do you recommend

We have an entire thread on non-iPod based (read: good*) mp3players here:

You can read my impressions on the iRiver there, and others' impressions on equally nice mp3 players.

Songs have disappeared from my Ipod, but are still on my I-Tunes list. Why??

                                Because your iPod is broken?

Maybe you should give a bit more information...
