Firewire works at 400mbps, whilst USB2.0 works at 480mbps. However, USB2.0 is also processor and resource dependent so on older machines, Firewire is faster since it uses its own dedicated chip to work.
With Apple removing the Firewire circuitry from the iPods, they've been able to shrink it down further and reduce costs.

Anyway, for the next-gen iPods (heh), Apple should ditch USB 2 and go with FW800

Yes it's bigger but it will have all the functionality of the video ipod plus a whole lot more, plus its cheaper and not an Apple product.
The GPX2 is hardly a comparable device. You're stuck with flash memory, which is what, 2gb max per card? iPod has 60gb, and it's a tiny, truly pocket sized device. Plus you get the iTunes store, podcast stuff, 20 hour battery life, and it all looks stunningly beautiful.
Apple are in a league of their own in this market. Nobody is anywhere near them.

The new 60 Gb model also increases the battery length from 15 hours to 20 and makes it thinner, all at no extra cost above the one that couldn't play video at the beginning of the week.
So even if you couldn't care less about the video bit (and until the BBC start to release free content for it I don't think I do much), it's nicer than the old models.
On the other one, we've gone from 20Gb for ?209 to 30Gb for ?219. Nice!

Perhaps I shall buy this........some day. I just dont know what to do with my current ipod, I could keep it so I could keep the wall charger.....
Wtf!?
The 30 gb model only has 14 hours of battery life! to get the 20 hours you got to get the 60 gb (which is 300 quid).
Damn you apple!Last edited by El Leone; 13-10-2005, 16:20.
