Interesting, I've had about 4 emails from them since signing up on Monday, to keep me abreast of the situation. Perhaps they've tightened that up a bit.

I didn't request a modem, got my own router here. I plumped for their 3 free filters though, wasn't going to look that in the mouth.

    Aye Chad, Solo 500, ?23.99 a month I think.

They couldn't have done much worse to be honest, but apart from that, and sending my modem out a bit later than I'd have liked I can't fault them - I'm on Solo 500 uncapped and it goes great guns.

IIRC i got my login a good week before final line activation, with the modem coming a few days after.

Time to time you may get disconnected between 3-5am. Pipex doesnt say anything about scheduled maintenance, so i can only assume it's when BT piss about with things down the exchange (at the most quiet time)

I've been with them for 14 months, and i've not had any problems with them

Another thumbs up for Pipex over here. Very fast service iirc.

Placed the order on a Tuesday, modem showed up Thursday, activated and online by 9am Friday. Been on the download tip ever since...

Hmm, you know I'm starting to think that the 10min line outtage was my line going live - I had my 3 filters and login details in the post earlier. Will fetch my router later, methinks.

My line went dead for around 10 minutes just before the bb went active too, which was a day before it was due to.

I have Solo500 too, very good service. Would be nice if it was a weee bit faster though, to prevent the lag in big games of Halo2

Nothing wrong with Pipex at all, used them for about 18 months at home, had BT before that and they were not brilliant, probably because everyone started signing up with them.
Use Zen now though and they have been superb, it has been on for just short of a year with only one reboot, probably power cut, and it is alot faster than Pipex for browsing, down loading there is nothing in it.

yup, another positive veiw here. Some of my friends complain about their connections going down but ive been with pipex for a year now and ive not had that happen once. That's sayin something bearing in mind the common horror stories u hear about wanadoo and BT. Cant say anything about customer service as ive never had to contact them!
You may find cheaper but i dont think you will find a more reliable connection

well fm lads, that 10 minute line going off thing during the week must have been BT sorting the exchange, because I've just picked up my router today and I'm online. Can't fault that kind of service - order Monday, online by the weekend. Excellent.

They ****ing suck. I cancelled their ****ty service because for some reason even though my line was activated, it would only connect for about 5 minutes then just drop the connection. They got a BT engineer out to check our line, our line turned out to be faulty, or so he told us, but he told the ***** that our line was fine even after telling to our faces he'd report the line fault to them.

We cancel due to never being able to connect. This takes ages, and costs another ?60 due to the BT engineer being a lying dickwad. We cancel, check our account a few months later, the bastards have been taking money out of account.

Phone them up repeatedly, on hold for 45 minutes at a time and the people on the other end are as pleasurable to speak to as one up the arse, and as helpful as student councillor.

Maybe its just me. But they keep sending me e-mails saying I haven't paid my bills, even thought I paid the cancellation fee and have repeatedly phoned them telling them so.

I'm on NTL right now, had no problems apart from the odd downtime on Saturdays for some reason.

You're a bit late to the party, I've had faultless service with them for a week or so now.

Faster throughput than BTopenworld I notice, perhaps I'm closer to the exchange here.

Good luck with NTL's billing department.

I didn't bother reading thread, sorry.

I know someone who gets faultless service from them. They'd probably have been fine if the BT engineer hadn't lied.

I don't deal with the NTL billing, my housemate does, I just stick the money in the kitty and let them deal with it. Although we haven't had any problems yet, so here's hoping to a few more months trouble free. Plus they gave us a student contract with a special student subscription (apparently, that's what the "man" said at the university stand, we never bothered checking. ?20 a month for 750k upgraded to 1mb soon to be upgraded to 2mb for a small fee).

                            Yeah me!
Problem is tho, your home Pipex connection was waaaay out in the stix. You probably had a dodgy line. That's more BT's fault than Pipex's. BT provide the actual connection and line, Pipex provide the data.

There's no accounting for ****ty billing though, and they're probably all as bad as each other in that respect, for the odd gaff.

I've been with Pipex for over a year now and haven't had any issues with it at all. Installation was quick (a week if I recall) and service has been fast and stable.

Have previously used Virgin.net (didnt like my router, after weeks of testing and complaining), then moved to Zen, who were fine. When I moved to my new place a year ago, Zen wanted ?50 to setup, which I wasn't willing to pay. I think Pipex was free, or cheaper (plus filters and a modem, which was eBay'd).

The only issue I have, is the lack of decent pricing on 1MB service. I pay ?23.50 a month for 512k, unlimited. I'd love to get some more speed, especially as I know folk on 2 and 4mb cable services. Pipex offer 1MB for ?29.99 but its capped, which isn't much good to me. Uncapped is ?31.99 I think, over ?30 anyhow - which is too much.

                                I may look into supanet...
