basically, forget your net for the moment, to check if you have access to the router... u need a "straight" ethernet cable from your pc to the router (put it into the LAN ports NOT WAN

simply open internet explorer and type http://192.168.0.1 (as i say this varies from manufacturer so check the manual it will tell you) press enter

enter username and password - usually = admin / admin (again it will say in the manual)

then ull get some sort of web based ctrl panel for your router where you can enter various settings etc etc

if thats all present and correct the router "should" be ok...

NOW... from what i gather, uve got an aerial on you roof which accepts a signal, which is then transfered to your computer using an ethernet cable ?? (which usually plugs in your computers NIC and your on the net etc blah blah blah)

if this is correct, that cable needs to go into the WAN port on the router... NOW so your isp can assign you with an ip address, it will check "registered" mac address' for your account... if the ones listed dont match the one which the cable goes into (ie the router in this case) no ip address is assigned, hence no internet... it is therefore neccesary for you to enter a MAC address into the router thats registered under your name at the isp... in this case.... u can use the mac address of the NIC which you had the cable from the roof plugged into before...

basically you "clone" this address to the router... the isp sez "oh yes there it is", gives the router an ip address and makes the connection etc...

its then the routers job to assign your comp and your xbox an ip (providing its setup to DHCP, which by default it should be), and again make a connection and transfer data to those 2 appliances = your net works

Open internet explorer and in the address bar type: 192.168.0.1 and press enter.

If your router is connected to the PC properly then you'll get the router setup screen and the wizard should run automatically. The rest kind of depends on your connection...

what does it say, page not found ??

if you cant access that, the router is more than likely broken.. unless the cable is wrong/faulty or its not plugged in correctly etc... u 100% you are using the correct ip address... have you looked in the manual for the exact one.. the one me and goldbricker gave is one thats most common... sometimes it can be 192.168.1.1 for instance or 10.1.3.254 etc

              This may be pointless but

I think im alredy using a router of somesort - MARVELL GIGABIT ETHERNET ADAPTER
Can you even use 2 routers at the same time?

Couldnt I just put the cable from MY router in to the back of the Xbox with the PC turned
              Off?

where you getting that information from, sounds like on-board NIC to me...

yes you can just plug the cable into the xbox if you can be arsed with swapping the cable all the time
