    Yes, it's component.

Also I don't own an Xbox so I can't say for sure, but,

How would that be possible? They both use the same scan rate.
whenever i run my NTSC games in PAL mode, for eg Ninja Gaiden, the intro is jumpy and the game runs slightly slower. The same for other games too, like Silent Hill 4.

Sounds like its trying to play the games at PAL-50, then. If you're using RGB or Component there should be no difference between NTSC and PAL-60, so I'd recommend running an NTSC dashboard for all games that support it.

probably so, this is why i run all my NTSC games in NTSC mode rather than PAL, even though the PAL picture is alot better.

            Sorry to reawaken this thread.

Is anyone able to tell me where to find a "official HD kit" that Mid referred to earlier in this thread. I assume that they aren't sold with the PAL Xbox.

I am looking to use a component connection to my TV in order to take advantage of progressive scan (via a modded Xbox).

You want the "Hi-Def Kit" which is only available in NTSC regions - Check your fave importer. One thing to note is that the progressive scan options only appear (in the MS Dashboard) when your xbox is running in NTSC mode, hence it not being sold in shops in the UK.

                Thanks debug77.

Saurian had alerted me to the need to run the dashboard in NTSC mode in order for prog scan to work. Will bear this in mind once I've got my mod.

Is it this one? Doesn't seem to be component, only composite.

If anyone can post me a link to it I'd be grateful. Can only find the AV pack. I usually use Lik-Sang or Play-Asia.

dan, that one does do component but you'd need a seperate component to component cable.

For the official Microsoft all in one component cable, see here:http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?cat...ducts_id=2985&

EDIT: It's not an official cable and it doesn't do digitl audio, sorry.

                      Thanks Pikman

Presumably I can take digital audio out via a separate optical cable to my amp, as is the case with my PS2?

yeah, the official M$ Hi-Def Kit has an optical out jack so you could do that no problem.

Ahhh, now I'm a bit confused (often the case). If I use the high-def kit, I'll be able to use the optical out jack, but I'll need to buy an extra component to component cable.

However, if I use the all-in-one component cable, how do I use digital audio. Does the Xbox not have an optical out on the back, as is the case with PS2?

No, the only way to get digital audio from an Xbox is via the signal out port.

That M$ Hi-Def pack is more or less a box of sockets but you need to buy seperate cables for it, so you'd require a seperate optical cable and a component cable. The advantage being you can decide on the quality and cost of the cables you use.

I know of no cable that outputs progressive scan and digital audio without the need to buy an extra optical cable. Your best bet is maybe to get the new Microsoft all-in-one component cable and then plug any old optical cable into it - you can get optical cables for a fiver on eBay.

For a bit more info have a look at this thread here: http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/showthread.php?t=30799
