and remember... the simpler it is, the more likely mailing lists are going to guess it!

(created a hotmail.com account using sbevan@ some time ago. Literally didn't use it, tell anyone I had it, agree to any opt-in options during sign up. Had a few spams 30mins later).

    they guess!

Well, Yahoo have upped my account a 2nd time now, first 6-100mb, now to 250mb - most likely in answer too Hotmail's (still aint upped my msn account yet - 2mb).... some kinder conspiracy/thing going on?:

      From theinquirer.net,

"WE RECEIVED a huge number of emails after we published this article about Hotmail. Quite a few people have already received their upgrade while many of you still miss the additional storage upgrade.

We tried to find some kind of pattern in the Microsoft upgrade scheme and we found some kind of logic in in operation.

I opened a new Hotmail account just for this article and was surprised that I received only 2MB of storage with it. I used USA regional settings. Many of our readers reported that when they opened their new account they got 250MB straight away.

Many of you said that their older accounts were upgraded to 250MB earlier and that some of acquaintances more recent accounts remain at 2MB. Some people who have more than one Hotmail account said the same. Older accounts get updated first while the most recent are still at 2MB.

It would be a happy end story if I don?t have account from 97 and still have 2 MB's while many people that have accounts created just a year or two ago received their 250 MBs already. But most of our readers from USA, Canada and Australia got 250 MB accounts.

I mailed and called my friends and most people in Austria, Bosnia and UK haven't had their upgrade. The only way Vole can actually know about your location is through your regional settings in your Hotmail account. Well we hope that's the only way. You are obliged to fill that field when you are setting up your new Hotmail account. That eliminates an alphabetical regional settings upgrade rule as Austria and Bosnia and Herzegovina should come before Canada.

Some poor guys got their 250MB accounts and Microsoft took it away from them and downgraded them to 2MB without any explanation."

If you're not paying for it, then what right do you have to complain?

Get sensitive stuff sent to Yahoo/Hotmail (doubt you'll dent that 2meg) and use Gmail for your porn attachments (can't think why else folk are worried about massive storage).

Well 2mb is useless when you try to send a file to ya mates offline who aint been upped yet or dont intend to use gmail. I've had lots of returned mails due to that which in turn takes up more space! lol

Update: Speak of the devils, MS have upped me to 250mb finally, and before xmas too

Funny thing is, I reckon GMail will never go "public".

The invite thing makes the accounts seem better than they actually are, and the 1GB storage will never have to be provided for the amount of chumps that Hotmail provide for.
