Forgot to say, Japanese GCs are starting this as well as the recent Gold one (from Toys R Us) had its digital out removed as well

So I guess it's not just America to blame

They did indeed. The fact that you could only get the component cable from Nintendo Direct for a fecking fortune didn't bias the survey at all, either.

      Bastages.

So I guess older GC's prices will rise in the secondhand market.... I better check my modded one still works!

The good(ish) news is that Nintendo will at least happily swap your new, shiny, but digital-portless Gamecube for a freshly-refurbished one that still has it. You might need to find a 'local' to do the exchange for you.

Paying full whack for refurb hardware seems a ripoff, however.

Looks like the fact I own a Gamecube with the Digital Video output removed has overshadowed the breaking news about Freeloaders being incompatible with the unit.

That's ok, but maybe someone can confirm the new Action Replay does indeed work, though? With these new systems? Before I fork out bucks for an updated AR that could end up with the same problem

            Thanks.

Is this true of Pal 'Cubes? I was thinking of buying a second one in a bundle (prolly the Pokemon bundle): I won't bother if it's been castrated...

I haven't seen any on the PAL market yet without the DV-out. It may not work anyway, or do you mean RGB enabled?

                  I mean for component-out.

Yeah, Nintendo of America said that apparently only 1% of Cube owners used it.

If I may nitpick, I wonder how it got named "Digital Video" output anyway. It's Component (analog).

My fairly old US GameCube works with Freeloader from Europe.

You can get an official DVI cable by all acounts, so I assume the signal is digital when it hits the cable?

I thought the reason that Component cables were so expensive for the Cube was that they've got a DAC in them? Which would mean the Digital Output really is. There is apparently all the signal necessary to get a digital coax audio output there, too, if only they sold a cable that used it.

Ah, that makes sense, thanks for the clarification.

                          I don't think that's a DVI cable though, I think that's D-Terminal?

Though the extra space taken up by 5.1 encoding would no doubt be a problem with the relatively limited storage of the GC disks?

Yeah it is a D-terminal, just another way of hooking up component.
