Rare? Define rare! Your help please :)

Next article I'm writing about is rare games. We're talking rare games here. Ultra rare. So, I've got 10 slots to fill and looking to see what you people out there on NTSC-UK think. I've got plenty of ideas myself, but there could be something I've missed.

Simple as, just name the game and the system it's for and why (if there's a particular reason) it is so hard to find. Can be any system, no holds barred there. Cheers

If I recall correctly, the european neo-geo version of Kizuna Encounter is one of the rarest games. But you might want to clarify with someone else.

I'm pretty sure there was a discussion in the retro games subforum about rare games, by the way. You might want to check that out.

Most rare titles are ones that could only be won via comps/tournies or sent off for via some voucher type scheme.

          How about this baby then?

Only a thousand units were ever produced by NOJ and they were only avaible via getting a special willy wonka gold ticket if you like, by buying certain GBA games. I have seen these going for well over ?1000 now.

I was thinking more commercial titles you could have bought in a shop (as opposed to win) but I could throw one in there I guess

@Siri - yep Kizuna Encounter is in there 99.9% for sure. I will check with the guys over at NG.com just to clear up any queries I have about it.

@DarkAngel - if an SP is going in, it's the real gold one you could win as a competition currently with Zelda Minish Cap; only 7 of them!

Hope this is gonna cover stuff thats really rare as opposed to just expensive.

Seems a lot of people don't know the difference.

                      DC:

D2 Signature box (3,5 or 10 made depending on what I've read, and I own one )

Grauen no Torikago Kapitel volumes 1-6 ((D-Direct) Sega direct only and have been going for rude amounts of cash as complete sets recently).

Death Crimson 2 Messe Sanoh Gun Set (Bloody awful game but they only made 500 sets and sold them at the Messe Sanoh dept store).

There's a few more DC goodies but they are secret for my website

Radiant Silvergun isn't going anywhere near the article... far too many copies of that made

I'm looking at stuff that had at most 3, possibly 4 figure production runs. Air Raid for 2600, Kizuna Encounter Euro for NeoGeo, Ultima Mount Drash for Vic20... that sort of stuff. Stuff you could have bought at the time, but people didn't, or couldn't, or lost, or whatever...

Radiant Silvergun and Chrono Trigger for example go for the money, but you look at eBay and you can find it easily. We're talking about games that might be lucky to come up a few times per year.

Cricket 2004 for the American PS2. I've seen it once on eBay. Other than that one time there's no record of it existing. No reviews, nothing.

NFL Quarterback Club '95 on Japanese Megadrive is quite rare, to the extent that I've never seen it in Tokyo, nor have friends and I only know one other person that owns one (Basically there are about 3 Megadrive games that I've not seen yet...). It's unique because Acclaim knew it would only sell in small numbers so rather then go through the hassle of printing a new cover for the game, they just got the European cover, stuck on 4 stickers (new catalogue number, barcode, Japanese MD logo, and some blurb) and whack in a Japanese cartridge and a cheap and cheap printed b&w manual. It looks odd in the collection as it does look sooo much like a European Megadrive game. So that should fit your little article nicely. It's rare but I'm not sure of what it's worth as I paid a pittance for it as the guy thought it was a European cartridge....

Should be a nice article Mayhem, look forward to reading it.
