Gah - this is proving a lot harder than I thought. Followed your instructions to the letter, wonderboy, but when I tried to save out the VOB as an AVI in VirtualDubMod, it says:

'No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format'

    Any ideas?

I'm rubbish at this technical stuff, me.

      Hi daddyorchips.

The above is really for anyone, who can't get FlaskMpeg to work.
FlaskMpeg is easier, cause it dtects more than one vob. You can set
VirtualDubMod up like that with aviSynth, but it a bit more hassle then
one click. Plus the above is for taking that joined avi back in to overlay
some subs. (posted it for martTM)...

So the best way for PAL dvds. Is to rip to a directory. Use FlaskMpeg
to convert the vobs to avi (plus converting the audio to PCM : really
important, to stop the sound losing synch). In the video panel crop if
needed. Select keep aspect ratio, select de-interlace (again if needed).
Then Drap and drop to 3GP...

I'd even resize the output of FlakMpeg to 368x208 for a quicker
conversion. Then drag it over to 3GP, meaning it wont have to resize,
speeding the job up again. Depending on content...

      Good luck..

Sorry martTM though you'd have AC3 filter installed. Try this...

        Probably why, FlaskMpeg crashed...?

Can you not put .vob files straight into 3GP? (Sorry if this was covered before)

            Excellent, mate! Thanks again!

By the way, one thing I keep meaning to ask you. When converting PAL dvd's, should I set the output (in 3gp and possibly in Flaskmpeg?) to run around 25fps and not 29? I remember way back in the day, I used to convert PAL DVDs to divx format, setting them to run at 23.97fps. What's the magic number for a PAL 3gp file?

Tell me I am getting mixed up here, the price difference is stupid.

Sony MEMORY STICK Duo Pro 512mb
              Amazon: ?211.06

              Ebuyer: ?52.20

              Surely this isn't right?
Regardless, ?52.00 is pretty good for a Sony stick.

Just keep the fps at exactly what the video is. Like 25fps, convert
at 25fps with flaskMpeg. Then drap and drop to 3Gp, let it do the
transcoding. You can change the fps in FlaskMpeg, but it might de-sync
the audio. Depending on the input..

This dy-sync stuff happens a lot with anime. You have a episode at
23.976, with variable bit-rate mp3 as sound. Or even aac. When you
convert with 3GP it's messed up in the audio. When really all you have
do is convert the audio in VirtaulDub to PCM, with a direct-stream-copy
of the video. Then pop it over to 3GP, job done...

Yep 3GP does like Vobs. So you can drag and drop, but if the fps input
is different. Then the fps out, you'll de-sync the sound. I'm sure if it's
                US dvd, should be fine..

dc-arena. Yep that price is right. Amazon are useless for prices on
                  Memory sticks and such...

When searching for a memory card a week or to saw some sony
memory sticks. On french and german sites, that were about that
price. Half the time you just hope they have these thing in stock..

Thanks.. And that ebuyer one is the correct type to go for? Duo Pro?

                    Comment

Looks right to me. Even though i noticed the description is wrong at
the top. It's Pro Duo, not Duo Pro. Well back of my PSP box states it..

Also, you usually get an adaptor to make it a PRO stick...

                      Comment

Don't you get an adapter to make it a non - Duo? I think thats supplied too?

                        text:
By attaching an adapter (included), it can also be used in products compatible with standard-size Memory Stick media.

Yeah, i think so. It say's on mine Memory stick duo adapter. It looks
like a pro stick, about twice the size. I don't use it though...

The only reason I enquired about whether a PAL source should be resampled at something other than exactly 25fps is because, looking at the 3gp transcoding code for NTSC film that you kindly provided, you specified exactly 29.97fps rather than 30fps. Any reason for this?

                            Here's what I mean:-

                            Title=368x208(16:9)/29.97fps/450kbps ?X?e???I/128kbps
                            TitleE=368x208/29.97fps/450kbps Stereo/128kbps
                            Command0=""<%AppPath%>\cores\ffmpeg" -y -i "<%InputFile%>" -pass 1 -passlogfile "<%TemporaryFile%>" -title "<%Title%>" -bitexact -vcodec xvid -s 368x208 -r 29.97 -b 900 -acodec aac -ac 2 -ar 24000 -ab 64 -vol 64 -f 3gp "<%TemporaryFile%>.3gp""

Should PAL sources be transcoded at 24.97fps? (yeh, I know I'm being anal here, but worth checking! )

                              Dammit!

It's still not working, wonderboy and I don't want to keep bothering you for answers... kinda seems unfair.

I installed the AC3 Filter program (the full one, not the source code) and followed the instructions once again, but it did the same thing. I did it again and double-clicked on Stream, which cross-hatched it... and then it worked, but I'm guessing that's because I disabled the audio because VDM was only registering the video for conversion and not the audio (which said 0/0). I enabled the sound again after aborting, but it didn't work (still said there was no decompression... thing. You know, what I wrote before). Needless to say, I'm annoyed. All this effort, because I want to watch a great movie on the move... bastard PSP.

Have I not activated the AC3? I couldn't see anything wrong and the help file says it should activate automatically. Do I have to put a plug-in into the VDM folder? What on earth am I doing wrong?

29.97fps and 14.985 are the compatible speeds at which the PSP plays at.
If you have a Pal 25fps source and convert it to a mp4 at 25fps. With no
play sync problems. Put it on your PSP and then you notice it's not playing
it right the video is well ahead of the sound...

Funny i'd never tried that 14.985fps before. Just tried it a minute ago with
a 2min clip of something. Works really well, will be really useful...
