Does anyone have a DS and a PSP ?!?

Can these two machines co-exist within the same household ?

u see i am getting a DS but am tempted by a PSP as well , thing is the gfx and specs of the PSP seem so much better i have a horrible feeling that i would forget about playing the DS and concentrate on the PSP ?!?! cos after all you can only really take one handheld out with you at a time ?!?

it's not the specifications that count but the games that you play. And games are not good or bad by high or low graphics quality! Okay, just needed to mention that.

Personally I think that currently there isn't much interesting available game-wise for the DS while there is for the PSP. So there is a good chance I would totally neglect my DS if I had along with a PSP. But when more interesting games become available for the DS I will have both and I will play with both, and maybe you will too.

Well I'm getting both. I already have a DS and I'm loving it, there's plenty of games that interest me on the DS. I'm waiting for the PSP to drop to a more affordable price for myself, plus I'm also waiting for some more games that tickle my fancy, to get released(namely a nice big SRPG from Nippon Ichi). At the moment I'm only really interested in Lumines and possibly Minna no Golf, out of the current crop. I may even wait for the european launch to pick one up(whenever that is).

At the end of the day I think I'll use both of them just as much, although of course that may change depending upon the games that are released over the lifetime of both of them.

Since getting my PSP I've only used the DS for some Minish Cap. Hopefully there will be some more compelling DS games in the future. As with the consoles, usage will depend on games out at the time.

Well I had a DS and now have a PSP but selling the DS was nothing to do with buying the PSP - I merely knew I wouldn't have time to play both (well either that or fail my uni finals) and had to make a very hard choice and went with the PSP. I think you can happily have both because both are very different and very good at what they do - put simply you're never going to get a game like Touch! Made in Wario on the PSP and the DS doesn't have a power to do alot of PSP games - both are excellent and both are responsible for me only have one home console at the moment!

                I have both.

And i challenge ANYONE to play Ridge Racers PSP, and then play Ridge Racer DS, and tell me that in this respect, that the DS is even fit enough to wipe the **** from my PSP's headphone socket...

Why make it a competition between the two? Surely both consoles excel at different things. I think in the long run *I* will prefer the DS more, however it's obviously the case that in sheer technical power the PSP tramples over it.

The touchscreen is a great feature of the DS. I look forward to seeing how it will be utilized in the future.

Don't get me wrong, i still play my DS a lot...not a day's passed without me playing Mario64, and i'm well hooked on Spiderman right now...

But the guy who's question it is asked if the two systems could co-exist alongside eachother, whereas in the instance i drew attention to, it's blatantly apparent they can't.

The touch screen capabilities in theory are brilliant. But not when you're going to use it purely for games like Feel The Magic (subtitled, Watch Me Abuse The Touchscreen For The Sake Of It!). Games like Mario64 do a good job, but there's far better ways of utilising the feature...in time i'll guess we'll see whether it can live upto it's potential, or just become horrendously unutilised...

I think the psp is offering sheer processing power and the ps2 range of games that we all know and love, it's onto a winner there - whilst perhaps the DS is attempting innovation and a different sort of experience. I think we will see the feature being used greatly, third party titles perhaps not, and if they appear on both consoles perhaps it would be better to go for the psp port

If someone gets both they shouldn't be too dissapointed, both angles of the future of handheld gaming will be covered for them. Perhaps to dismiss either at this stage is a mistake.

Something thats not been mentioned is the ergonomics.

The DS handes very poorly imo, i own one and have played a fair ammount on a PSP - the psp for me is the better machine gfx aside. The pad is better, the button layout is far better and unlike the DS it doesnt dig into your hands.

Dont get me wrong, im a big Nintendo fan as a rule but for me they have dropped the ball on the design, the machine is fine i just cant get along with it.

                          Very good point also.

I imagine what's likely to put off gamers who are in the mind to get just one system and can afford either, that people are more likely to swing for a PS2 in their pocket, not in all actuallity an N64 with a touch screen.

This is of course as long as (like expected) Sony don't price themselves out of the casual gamer market...
