Well it is just the lead that is at fault so if you have another cable on the way that could be wired up correctly inside and your TV will switch over to RGB correctly when the PS2 is powered up.
However, if you want to get your current lead working I believe you can open the cable up and fix it. Sadly my knowledge of the exact process is dodgy, I just recognised the symptoms of the problem you describe as I've had friends suffer the exact same.
Someone with more in depth knowledge of cables and the like (Saurian?) should be able to give you more details.

The one in trying it on is a less than a week old slim US. Tried it on my white Jpn one and early model PAL aswell. All tits up.
I also took all the other inputs out aswell and still pink.
Bloody Ixos have those stupid plastic box affairs that you have to cut to open,so sending it back is going to be fun.

This truly is bizarre!
I have more or less the same setup as Nick - NTSC PS2 + IXOS lead + Argos switcher + Sony TV and have never had a problem. Only thing I noticed was the picture being dull & blue-ish when I still had an Xbox hooked-up, but pressing one of the "B-A" or "C-A" buttons on the Argos splitter restored the picture to normaility.
The fact that the image is still pink when connected directly to a TV is even more baffling.
wod, the cable is 2m long.

Gets weirder!
I boxed up the Ixos lead to send back, and then started to put all my scarts back into the splitters. I put the 2 X-Box's in the first one,the PS2 (Blaze) and GC were going in the next.
When i got the rgb going before with the Xbox on at the same time as the PS2 the PS2 was in the first, next to the X-Box. So i swapped them over(PS2 and Green X-Box in no1,GC and smoky in no2). The PS2 was on from when i was trying out the Ixos and as soon as i plugged it in the tv auto switched, full rgb!. Seems like the Blaze is now getting the voltage it needs to swap the tv channel,as long as the 2 X-Box's are plugged in (but not turned on now, dont need to be). WTF!
Thinking that something somewhere had remedied itself i undid the Ixos out of the packaging and.....still pink. Guess that cable is knackered-hope so as i have another coming. Even though its pink the Ixos image did look marginally sharper than the Blaze.
